Member states at the 76th World Health Assembly (WHA) resolved to accelerate their efforts to prevent micronutrient deficiencies through food fortification.  As we mark one year since this historic resolution, we call upon national stakeholders to join us in supporting the implementation of the #WHA76 resolution by actively engaging their government and other local fortification partners.  Not sure where to start? This new toolkit equips advocates with resources to maintain momentum during this landmark moment for food fortification: http://bit.ly/3LssEXL Future Fortified #Nutrition4Growth #EndMalnutrition #EndHiddenHunger #SDG2 Photo Credit: Mitchell Maher / International Food Policy Institute (IFPRI)

Malnutrition in early childhood leads to irreversible damage in brain development, impacting lifelong learning, behavior, and health.  The Economist underscores the importance of the "golden window," the first 1,000 days after conception, where a well-nourished brain forms a million synapses per second. This period sets the foundation for a child's future.  A study cited by The Economist reveals that 43% of children in low- and middle-income countries, at high risk due to stunting or extreme poverty, are likely to earn 25% less as adults. In East Africa, where income levels are low for many, Sanku works to ensure access to affordable nutritious flour for mothers and children. Addressing early childhood malnutrition is crucial for breaking the cycle of poverty. Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dse7qzGK #SupportSanku #EndMalnutrition #EndHiddenHunger #SDG2

Last month, during the launch of Sanku's Nutrient Blending Factory, our CEO, Felix Brooks-church, reflected on Sanku's journey, including our initial interactions with Tanzania's former President, H.E. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, in 2015. President Kikwete challenged us to take action on two components: ✅ Ensure every village in Tanzania has a dosifier. ✅Produce the premix locally in Tanzania. A little over a decade later, we are proud to: ✅ Have over 1,000 dosifiers across the whole of Tanzania. ✅ Have launched the first-ever premix blending factory in Tanzania and the  Eastern African region. We celebrate these successes that have significantly contributed to our growth and impact in the region. We continue to push towards our goal of serving over 100 million people daily by 2030. According to the World Health Organization, climate change is the biggest global health threat of the 21st century, with malnutrition being a significant factor. An estimated 400 million more people could face malnutrition due to declining crop nutritional quality while there is a predicted 10% decrease in healthy life years by 2050 due to climate change-induced malnutrition. Improving nutritional status, especially in early pregnancy, is crucial for resilience. Sustainable production of nutritious foods, combined with food fortification among other interventions, is needed to address the global nutrient gap and ensure healthy diets for all, a fundamental human right! Focusing on vulnerable groups such as girls and women will be key in alleviating the consequences of hidden hunger for millions of people. Last week, we welcomed a delegation from the Ethiopian Millers Association to our factory in Dar es Salaam. Led by President Tedla Hailegiorgis Geda, board member Mengistu Oma, and Muluneh Lema, they toured our operations, including the bag printing factory, and visited two local partner millers. Their visit concluded with a tour of our newly launched premix blending factory. The Nutrient Premix Factory will serve the greater Eastern African region with affordable nutrient premix.  With the Ethiopian Government set to begin enforcing food fortification this week, our model at Sanku serves as a key solution provider as we aim to work alongside millers in Ethiopia in their fortification journey.  Learn more about our work 👉 www.sanku.com  #SupportSanku #EndMalnutrition #EndHiddenHunger #SDG2

Healthy mothers are the cornerstone of healthy nations. Proper maternal nutrition empowers women to reach their full potential and support their children's health and prosperity. Unfortunately, many mothers face undernutrition, impacting their health, energy, and productivity, with far-reaching effects on families and economies. This cycle of malnutrition can persist across generations. Investing in food fortification is a smart and effective way to break this cycle, fostering healthier families, communities, and future generations. Together, we can create lasting change for the millions of people lacking access to nutritious food, a fundamental human right.
