I had the pleasure of meeting with one of our first known success stories with a participant in San Diego's Blue Envelope Program. To abbreviate his story, he was involved in a pretty gnarly traffic collision which is stressful for anyone, especially for someone who has communication and/or intellectual disabilities. Despite the incident evolving around him, this driver was able to retrieve his Blue Envelope and give it to responding deputies who were able to provide accommodating care. https://lnkd.in/gnqM3U4h July is Culinary Arts Month! Our six-month Culinary Arts Program, including a barista course, helps people in custody prepare for their return to society. Participants in the Coffee Cart Program work in real coffee shops inside the Las Colinas and East Mesa Reentry Facilities. Students learn to brew espresso, manage inventory, control costs, and run a successful coffee cart. They also build communication skills and self-esteem through customer service. These skills, such as teamwork and accountability, are crucial for life after release. By equipping participants with valuable skills, we invest in their future and a safer society.
