🌟 Women of Wastewater Spotlight 🌟 💧 "I have always been a public servant and will continue being one until retirement. I relocated to the area and was fortunate enough to begin working with the River Authority 6 years ago. The organization is environmentally conscious, and that was appealing to me." – Corina Galvan 📚 Meet Cory, a key member of our Utilities Team! With a background in Business Administration and Library Science, Cory’s unique experience in municipal employment provided her with valuable insights into the crucial role of utilities in our community and environment. 💪 Challenges? Cory sees them as opportunities, working alongside intellectual and dedicated colleagues to ensure the seamless operation of our Utilities Team. Her motivation? The constant learning and staying focused on her tasks help her overcome obstacles. 🌊 For women considering a career in wastewater treatment, Cory advises starting with volunteering or taking a tour to understand the complexities of the wastewater cycle. She emphasizes the importance of wastewater treatment in producing recycled water that supports our creeks, rivers, and local wildlife. 🐟 👏 Words from her Manager: "Cory has been instrumental in the management of our development and permitting processes, supporting the tremendous growth in our service area over the last several years." 🌟 The San Antonio River Authority is excited to celebrate National Intern Day! We are very proud to offer these opportunities and see our interns thrive while making a difference! Today, we shine a spotlight on these young minds who help drive our mission forward. 👩🔬 Angelica Canizalez – Intern, Environmental Sciences Department "My internship position allows me to see the full life cycle of a water sample. I collect water samples and run MPN and TSS analyses, involved in both fieldwork and laboratory analyses. As a graduate student at TAMUSA, this experience is a perfect fit for me, and I hope to continue in water quality and watershed ecology." 🌱 Trinity Shuler – Planning Intern, Engineering "My experience here has been amazing! I work with the Planning Team, learning about Nature-Based Solutions for stormwater infrastructure and ArcGIS Pro. I've also assisted with site visits, avian surveys, and water quality monitoring. I hope to stay with the River Authority in the future!" 🥼 Angel Acosta – Hutton Scholar Intern, Environmental Sciences Department “"My passion for nature started in childhood, and it grew during high school, especially in my biology class focused on marine life. I wanted a career that allowed me to explore underwater life. Joining the Hutton Scholar program proved that this field is my path. Coming from a second-generation Hispanic household, I aimed to break stereotypes and show that we can achieve our goals. This internship has taught me invaluable lessons about river ecology and persistence. I plan to use this knowledge as I join Corpus Christi A&M in fall 2025." 🔬 Rebeca Salinas – Lab Intern, Environmental Sciences Department (photo #4) 🥼 Sarah Borda – Mike Gonzalez Intern, Environmental Sciences Department (photo #5) 🙌 Thank you for helping to keep our creeks and rivers safe, clean, and enjoyable! #NationalInternDay #Internship #FutureLeaders #EnvironmentalScience #Engineering #WaterQuality #Conservation #RiverAuthorityInterns #SanAntonioTX #SanAntonioRiver #SafeCleanEnjoyable #SanAntonioRiverAuthority #WhatsYourWaterway #OurRiverWay #KnowYourRiversReach
