Tarleton State Names Dr. Brett Powell CFO, Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration Tarleton State University has named Dr. Brett Powell the new Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, effective July 1. In this role, Dr. Powell will oversee Tarleton State’s budgetary and fiscal affairs, including planning, monitoring and managing overall financial plans, policies and operations. “Dr. Powell is a proven leader in all aspects of financial services, making him a tremendous fit for the growth trajectory of our institution,” said Tarleton State President Dr. James Hurley. “He will be an invaluable resource as we strive to be the premier comprehensive university in the nation.” https://lnkd.in/gz6XYrJf

  • 2024 John D. Walda Pathfinder Award from NACUBO Congratulations to Dr. Ronald Rhames! This year, NACUBO’s Board of Directors bestowed its highest honor, the John D. Walda Pathfinder Award, on Dr. Ronald Rhames, president emeritus of Midlands Technical College (SC). Since 2012, the award has been given only four times, to individuals whose lives and careers in higher education business management are inspirations to college and university business officers. An employee of Midlands Technical College for 34 years, Rhames became the first African American president in its history in 2015 and led many successful initiatives, including those aimed at making the college more affordable. He also implemented a comprehensive strategic planning process and restructured the college’s academic and continuing education programs into guided pathways for students. Rhames served as chair of the NACUBO Board of Directors and president of the regional association SACUBO, among other roles. In addition to the Pathfinder Award, Rhames has received numerous accolades, including the State of South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Palmetto, in recognition of his impact and service.

  • Congratulations to Steve Kimata on the 2024 NACUBO Student Financial Services Award! Steve Kimata, associate vice president for enrollment and student financial services at the University of Virginia, received the 2024 Student Financial Services Award for his many contributions to his institution, the profession, and NACUBO. His extensive experience includes 40 years at the University of Virginia, serving in roles including bursar and controller.

  • Congratulations to Kelvin Davis for receiving the 2024 NACUBO Rising Star Award! Kelvin Davis, Delta State University associate vice president of finance and administration and deputy CFO, received the 2024 Rising Star Award in recognition of his high potential to succeed as an executive and business officer in higher education. At Delta State, he has managed general accounting, grant accounting, accounts payable, procurement, financial reporting, treasury, bursar, payroll, budgeting, and the university’s contracted auxiliaries. He is a 2023-24 participant in the NACUBO Fellows Program and is active in regional association SACUBO as well. Kelvin is the chair of the comprehensive and doctoral constituent committee for SACUBO.

  • 2024 SACUBO Fall Workshop Keynote Speaker Thursday, October 31, 2024 Jeff Butler, Speaker, Author, & Workplace Strategist Jeff Butler is an author and workplace strategist who explores human behavior within the working world. His experience spans over 40 industries in 4 continents on how different cultures and employees interact with each other. He studies common threads of behavior in industries such as IT professionals, underground utility workers, police officers to clothing retail chains. In addition, Jeff has also worked with companies like Google, Amazon, John Deere and Coldwell Banker. As a researcher and practitioner, he also runs a consulting company and a tech company, TrinityFix where he is able to test his ideas in different workplace environments. His ideas have made it to TEDx twice, appeared in dozens of media outlets including two books on human behavior: The Authentic Workplace and The Key To The New You.
