Rutgers SoE Team Receives NSF $3 Million Award to Transform Latency-critical Manufacturing for Future Smart Factories The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded Rutgers Engineering researchers nearly $3 million for a four-year project to develop “NextG-Enabled Manufacturing (NextGEM) of the Future” – one of five prestigious “Future Manufacturing” grants awarded in 2023 – aimed at improving advanced manufacturing efficiencies. The cross-disciplinary School of Engineering (SoE) team is led by PI Yuebin Guo, Henry Rutgers Professor of Advanced Manufacturing, who will be overseeing all aspects of the project from startup and planning to program implementation and administration, research, and fiscal components.  Team members include Rutgers’ Wireless Information and Network Laboratory (WINLAB) Chief Technologist Ivan Seskar, acting director Narayan Mandayam, and associate director Yingying (Jennifer) Chen, all electrical and computer engineering (ECE) faculty, Prof. Jingang Yi of mechanical and aerospace engineering (MAE), and associate professor Weihong (Grace) Guo of industrial systems. #Rutgers #RutgersSoE #NextGEM #5GRevolution #SmartManufacturing #AdvancedManufacturing #Innovation #FutureOfManufacturing

🌟 Exciting Summer Course Announcement! 🌟 We are thrilled to introduce a new summer course: 16:155:589 Special Problems in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐇4: 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, led by Professor Richard Cimino. This course focuses on training students to communicate using data and tools relevant to the chemical and pharmaceutical engineering professions. Exciting News! CAIT Researchers Will Use AI-powered Technology to Make Public Transit Safer NJ TRANSIT has been awarded a $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the implementation of Artificial Intelligence-based systems designed to improve safety at light rail grade crossings. Working with the Rutgers CAIT: Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation, the agency will equip cameras at light rail grade crossings and along railroad rights-of-way across New Jersey with cutting-edge AI algorithms to analyze real-time video data of pedestrian and vehicle travel. Xiang Liu, an associate professor and director of the Rutgers Rail and Transit Program, will lead the Rutgers CAIT team. This AI-powered monitoring system can rapidly parse through video data to detect, analyze, and categorize safety events and near-miss incidents. It has the capability to differentiate vehicles and pedestrians and can weigh safety factors such as time of occurrence, movement trajectory, weather conditions, and proximity to train arrival times. “Alongside Rutgers CAIT, we are working to set a new standard in transportation safety aimed at preventing grade-crossing incidents leveraging the power of artificial intelligence,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett. Entrepreneur, innovator, speaker, author, media personality, and DEI expert Dr. Randal Pinkett ENG’94 will be the keynote speaker at Rutgers School of Engineering’s 2024 convocation on May 10.  Dr. Randal Pinkett is the co-founder, chairman and CEO of BCT Partners, a global research, training, consulting, technology and data analytics firm that has been recognized by Inc. 5000 as one of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies, and by Forbes as a “Best Management Consulting Firm.” As a contributor to MSNBC, CNN, and Fox Business News, his expertise includes areas such as emerging technologies, big data analytics, social innovation, culture, and DEI. An international public speaker, he has authored or co-authored several books such as Black Faces In High Places Book and Data-Driven DEI. He earned his BS in electrical engineering from Rutgers, where he was the captain of the men’s track and field team. He was the first African American Rutgers graduate to receive a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford, where he earned a Master of Science degree. He subsequently earned a second MS, an MBA, and a PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
