Increasing investment in clean hydrogen requires coordinated engagement between financial institutions, project developers, and policymakers. RMI and Mission Possible Partnership are mobilizing clean hydrogen buyers’ clubs and market mechanisms to aggregate demand and tee up bankable offtake contracts. RMI is also connecting the Hydrogen Demand Initiative with the financial sector to support design of the U.S. Department of Energy’s up-to-$1 billion demand-side incentive. On your marks, get set, go! The global race to the top is underway to lead the energy technologies of the future.     The energy transition today is principally driven by three regions — China, Europe, and the United States — competing across three areas: cleantech supply chains, cleantech deployment, and electrification.    China is currently in the lead, but the marathon has only just begun. Only 40 percent of electricity is clean, 20 percent of energy is electrified, and 20 percent of car sales are electric. Europe and the United States are pushing to compete, as evidenced by the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act and RepowerEU. As the energy transition continues, there will be many opportunities for another region to take the lead: https://bit.ly/3WETilf #EnergyTransition #Cleantech #Climatetech #China #Europe #UnitedStates

To decarbonize the international shipping industry and meet the sector’s 2050 net-zero goals, planning and investment in zero- or near-zero emission fuels must accelerate significantly this decade. In Washington, the state’s ports, government agencies, and maritime stakeholders are working to catalyze deployment of more sustainable shipping fuels. RMI’s latest report provides insights for policy makers and other key parties into how to fully decarbonize shipping fuel for ocean-going vessels at Washington ports by 2050: https://bit.ly/46AnqCV #Washington #Shipping #Decarbonization #Sustainability

Montana’s Big Sandy High School needs an upgrade! Built in the 1930s, the school’s heating system is so outdated that staff have to turn it off completely to regulate the temperature. Many districts nationwide face similar challenges and can’t afford major updates without assistance. However, this need is a prime opportunity to lead in climate readiness, reduce climate pollution, and save significant money. That’s an A+ plan in our book! 💯 🎧 Listen to the full NPR episode featuring RMI’s Wendy Jaglom: https://n.pr/4c9ahlD

From the ingredients in our cleaning supplies to the paint, pipes, and other materials used to build our homes, chemicals are an integral part of our daily lives. They are also a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for up to 6% of global emissions. Industry leaders are attempting to reduce the chemicals sector’s emissions and environmental impact, but there is still a complex emissions reduction path ahead. RMI is taking a systems approach to solutions, examining every part of the industry’s supply chain. Solutions for reducing climate risk include: 1️⃣ Reducing overall demand for petrochemicals 2️⃣ Reducing the energy required to manufacture chemicals and switching to renewables 3️⃣ Using alternative feedstocks and production pathways Learn more about how RMI is advancing solutions for the chemicals industry through deeper analysis and recommendations: https://bit.ly/4dqPxXp #Electrification #Chemicals #EmissionsReduction

With a rich heritage spanning India, Spain, and America, Vikram Singh has transformed his multicultural background into a powerful asset in the fight against climate change. Singh helps RMI to execute partnerships, strategies, communications, and campaigns to influence the international community and global climate agenda and supports RMI’s work across Global South geographies. “Knowing that I have helped pivot RMI to a more global mindset, helping it understand new geographies, platforms, and people in ways that it didn’t before, I think my career will be nearly complete,” Singh explains. “That is my goal, and I give my everything towards that. Yes it’s about gigawatts, but in the end it just comes down to people — and we’re all the same.” Read more about his journey: https://bit.ly/3A9UCFg #ClimateAction #GlobalLeadership #Sustainability #InternationalDevelopment #ClimateFinance

A lot has changed in the past century, but how we regulate utilities hasn't kept up. Traditional methods fail to adequately address today’s challenges that threaten affordability, reliability, and safety in the fact of rising temperatures and extreme weather. Enter performance-based regulation (PBR), a smarter way to motivate utilities to deliver better services for everyone. Our new report explains how PBR can: 💰 Encourage cost efficiency ⚡️ Promote climate readiness and resiliency 🤝 Ensure fair access to electricity Learn how Hawaii is leading the way and how these strategies can benefit us all: https://bit.ly/3YoMf2R

Today is #EarthOvershootDay, the day when humanity has used up all the resources the planet can sustainably regenerate for the year. Over the past decade, Overshoot Day has been relatively consistent, meaning that we are not accelerating the damage to the biosphere. But we still spend nearly half the year consuming resources such as fossil fuels, soil, and food that is not being replenished. RMI is committed to reducing carbon pollution and advancing decarbonization efforts in the fight against climate change and resource exploitation: https://bit.ly/3SxJpVv #ClimateAction #Decarbonization #Sustainability
