“The international system of the future will continue to have the United Nations at its core, but the complexity and hazards of these turbulent times demand that we establish a more robust, flexible, and nimble ecosystem of networks, organizations, and modalities that work in concert with the United Nations.” In The Fund’s new published report A LOGIC FOR THE FUTURE, president and CEO Stephen Heintz acknowledges the limitations of the current multilateral system urging increased input from non-traditional stakeholders like city and local leaders. https://lnkd.in/gmn6iQTY

The Rockefeller Brothers Fund advances social change that contributes to a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world.
About us
Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) is a philanthropic foundation with a mission to advance social change that contributes to a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world. Through our grantmaking, mission-aligned investing, and convenings at The Pocantico Center, the RBF supports the people and organizations building lasting solutions to the challenges facing today’s increasingly interdependent world. Our grantmaking is organized into seven programs. Three thematic programs—Democratic Practice, Sustainable Development, and Peacebuilding—address the interrelated challenges of democratic decline, climate change, and violent conflict. The Culpeper Arts & Culture program, created through the 2008 merger with the Charles E. Culpeper Foundation, supports arts organizations and artists in the New York City region that shape understanding of these critical concerns and the human experience. Pivotal Place programs in China, Central America, and the Western Balkans focus on one or more RBF themes in a specific geographic context that we believe has disproportionate significance for the future of the surrounding regions, an ecosystem, or the world. Recognizing that the problems the RBF aims to address are profound and our resources are modest, our grantmaking programs share common approaches to achieve enduring impact: Nurture bold ideas from the ground up; Support solutions grounded in evidence and lived experience; Advance equity and inclusion; and Respond to changing contexts. The Pocantico Center is the community facing extension of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund’s philanthropic mission. Through a robust slate of programming— including conferences for nonprofit and policy leaders, artist residencies, tours, performances, and educational programs for the community—Pocantico continues to bring together people from near and far to learn, share, and imagine a better future. “It is time for a new vision of America’s role in the world based on an understanding that what is good for the world is good for us.” Ahead of Independence Day celebrations this July 4, RBF President and CEO Stephen Heintz imagines new ways for the United States to embrace its ideals of freedom, liberty, and democracy as a collaborative global leader. In his recently published report, A LOGIC FOR THE FUTURE, Heintz envisions a future where the United States leverages “strategic empathy,” coordination with multilateral entities, and ethical leadership to champion the global response to the age of turbulence. https://lnkd.in/gmn6iQTY #independenceday #july4

“I am most proud of the unwavering commitment of the organisation “Atina” in protecting victims of human trafficking over the years, as well as the fact that we have managed to maintain our integrity. We have worked hard - on ourselves, we have changed and learned from women and girls who have survived trafficking; the two-decade joint effort of all Atina members is crucial in supporting trafficking victims in Serbia but also in understanding the importance of collective impact and contribution of all of you to this fight.” Congratulations to Director of NGO Atina Marijana Savic for being presented with this year's Trafficking in Persons Hero award. The U.S. Department of State recognized her invaluable contribution and dedication to the field spanning over 21 years.
Human trafficking violates the fundamental rights and freedoms of all people. That’s why for more than two decades the Department has documented global anti-trafficking efforts and identified effective initiatives to combat this problem. Our Trafficking in Persons Report also honors brave individuals from around the world who are dedicated to ending human trafficking, often while sacrificing their personal safety. This week, Secretary Blinken welcomed this year’s heroes in a ceremony at the State Department. Learn more about these remarkable people and how we are working so hard to end this abhorrent practice. https://lnkd.in/gcfdw6Mi

For the global governance/global order nerds among us, Stephen Heintz of Rockefeller Brothers Fund released his report urging swift and holistic reform of global governance institutions to respond to urgent transnational challenges. "A Logic for the Future: International Relations in the Age of Turbulence" examines the origins and evolution of today’s system of international relations and offers a revised framework. The greatest danger in times of turbulence is "acting with yesterday's logic," -- which is where we find ourselves today. This paper applies this new logic to the global political landscape and proposes a new pathway forward that better meets the global challenges of this century. I've been using earlier drafts of it as food for thought for our retreats on renewing multilateral cooperation because it's thought-provoking about elements of the global order we want to keep and more importantly what changes we need to see. Would be interested in your thoughts. Read the Full report at https://lnkd.in/e3B75Jh2 #globalgovernance #unitednations

This is a #mustread of one of our fellows and friend, Stephen Heintz, CEO and President of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. As I have stated on their webpage (https://lnkd.in/exXXJ9KQ): “Heintz’s report provides concrete and visionary suggestions on how to make the #rulesbasedglobalorder 🌐 more suitable for the challenges of the #21stcentury. This report is a perfect example of how the Robert Bosch Academy makes a difference by supporting outstanding international leaders, providing them an opportunity and space to work on the most pressing global issues of our times. 💡 We hope that the report will further a discussion on how to make international relations more equitable and inclusive.” ⚖ Robert Bosch Stiftung
“The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not turbulence itself; rather, it is ‘acting with yesterday’s logic.'” Today, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund released a new report by president and CEO Stephen Heintz, A LOGIC FOR THE FUTURE: INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS IN THE AGE OF TURBULENCE, proposing a reformed international system that better meets the global challenges of this century. Written during his time as a Richard von Weizsaecker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy, Heintz examines the origins of today’s system and imagines not merely what can be, but what might be. https://lnkd.in/gmn6iQTY

Colin Campbell steered the Rockefeller Brothers Fund with signature warmth and patience during a period of extraordinary growth from 1988 to 2000. He passed away at home surrounded by family on June 21, 2024, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Colin was a transformative leader of the RBF, working with fourth-generation Rockefeller family members as they assumed leadership of the foundation. An articulate proponent of collaboration, he built partnerships with other foundations and institutions with foresight and imagination. He partnered with the Rockefeller family and the National Trust for Historic Preservation to open The Pocantico Center on the former Rockefeller family estate in 1994. “Colin knew that philanthropy’s greatest asset is its independence and ability to take risks to test new ideas,” said Stephen Heintz, current president of the RBF. “Over the course of our 40-year friendship, I have often been struck by my enormous luck to know him and the humble privilege it has been to succeed him as RBF president.” https://lnkd.in/eQyWUBtQ

“We have to be focused on what we call the exhausted majority — that’s 65 percent of Americans. It’s just not an efficient use of time to convince true ideologues to compromise.” The Trust for Civic Life, backed by the RBF, Stand Together, and others, will award its first grants for local efforts that rebuild community and reinforce democratic values. “In this case, ‘democracy’ is with a small 'd' — emphasizing efforts to shore up the values needed to promote democratic pluralism, without explicit mentions of Republicans or Democrats.” https://lnkd.in/gdxUFuZj
