We are really into goats, and our clients know it. They send us goat things. This is probably the best book we have read all year. 👇 The hand model is Elizabeth 'small hands' de Stadler with a cameo from Liezl van Zyl. Why the goats? 🐐 Goats are often used to calm down race horses. We offer one-on-one mentorship, workshops and a newsletter for lawyers who want to feel better, work better, and live better. If you haven't already, sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gsBAsbvF Dedicated to Maryke Richards (née Boonzaier). You brought joy.

It is almost time for our Plain Language Writing Skills for Lawyers course. Have you signed up yet? It will be presented by Elizabeth de Stadler 🎈, Liezl van Zyl and Dr Annie Burger-Boshoff. Speaking of Annie, she is our our resident #plainlanguage PhD. Here are three things to know about her: 🐈 She is the kind of human that cats like to adopt. 📚 She is not only a plain language practitioner but also a researcher who studies how plain language behaves in the real world. ❓ She is a professional asker of questions. No really, Annie believes that plain language is not just about editing language, its about reassessing how you approach communication, and if you really want to know if something is working the best way to find out is to ask your audience through user testing. Want to hear more from Annie herself? Sign up for the course here https://lnkd.in/euKCy3_a It starts on 31 May and everybody is welcome! It is an online course of one hour per week (with some homework) and runs for 6 weeks. It is a steal at R2650 (about EUR135). And now we feel like those telesales people. Should we throw in some Shogun knives that can cut through tins?!? 🔪

This is a photo, through a windscreen after dropping kids off at school, of an autumn sunrise, reflecting pink off Table Mountain. Let's talk about awe as a #mentalhealth tool. Can you conjure that feeling of awe that rises when you see something awesome (the original meaning of the word)? Marcus Aurelius, the OG Stoic, said that we must ‘Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them. Think constantly on the changes of the elements into each other, for such thoughts wash away the dust of earthly life.’ And here Lisa Feldman Barrett explains the link between feeling awe and over-coming the problems life throws at you: ‘Because if other things are more majestic than you and you’re just a speck, that means your problems are just a speck. And just for a minute, if your problems are recognised as unimportant, that acutally gives your nervous system a break. It just lets you readjust and puts things in perspective.’ You can cultivate awe. For us it is the mountains, but it can be a piece of music, writing, art, nature, dancing or in fact anything that grabs your full attention. At a loss for how to cultivate it? Take 30 mins sometime today to watch this awe-inspiring TED Talk which also explains the science of awe: https://lnkd.in/dNvu-uiV But back to the mountains. We can also imagine Alex Honnold climb the face of Table Mountain without a rope (he is the climber from the documentary Free Solo). Here is what he said about it: 'One of the sensations I love about soling is the feeling of being really big and really small at the same time.' It is #MentalHealthAwareness Month. A while a go we did a LinkedIn Live with Jane 👃🎤 Tarrant called Just Breathe! Science has shown that doing breathwork can help people with mental health issues from anxiety to bipolar disorder. We have seen the benefits first hand. Wondering how to improve your breathing habits? Watch this Tedx by Jane and follow her for free master classes. She even managed to calm Elizabeth de Stadler 🎈 down before her workshop at LegalGeek last year. No small feat. https://lnkd.in/dNivFJUk
