Need some help fostering proactive belonging in your CSR program? It's all about: 🤝 Proximity (to others who are not like me) is the practice. 🏠 Hospitable space is the mechanism. 💗 Hospitality is the principle to guide my actions and interpret those of others so that I may recognize and receive belonging when and as it occurs. To effectively leverage the power of proximity and hospitality within CSR programs, CSR managers must adopt a holistic mindset that extends beyond traditional volunteering and giving activities. Keep in mind some key considerations: 💞 Fostering Authentic Connections: This could involve partnering with local organizations, hosting cultural exchange events, or facilitating immersive experiences that challenge assumptions. 🏠 Cultivating Hospitable Spaces: This may involve providing training for employees and community partners on inclusive practices, or establishing clear guidelines for respectful dialogue. 🧠 Embracing Disorienting Dilemmas: By creating safe spaces for individuals to process cognitive dissonance and engage in critical self-reflection, CSR programs can facilitate deep personal and collective growth. Read on for two more considerations that will help you cultivate proactive belonging through your CSR program: https://bit.ly/3Wig5of #belonging #employeevolunteering #csr #esg #socialimpact

Sometimes, amidst the corporate focus on measurement and our drive to track and report “the numbers” of our corporate volunteering efforts, the original intent of volunteerism can get lost. The dynamic starts to shift and can become…problematic. 👎 In our recent Real Talk webinar with Megan Strand and Angela Parker, we had a robust discussion about this topic and outlined three problems with focusing solely on numbers, or “outputs” of corporate volunteer programs: 😕 We could be undermining our intended impact. 😥 We could be reinforcing old (and boring) ideas about volunteering. 😰 No, really. We could be reinforcing old, boring - and potentially dangerous - ideas about volunteering. Check out highlights and dive into the three problems here: https://bit.ly/48UsHF8 #csr #esg #socialimpact #volunteering

It's key in Social Impact to meaningfully engage your employee volunteers before, during and after your events in order to go beyond participation and awareness. But, how? 🤔 Well, after your event, remember that you’re already in the life cycle – no event or campaign should be considered isolated. Every single one is an opportunity to amplify or highlight the next stage, the next opportunity, and ways for employees to level-up within the program. 📣 So, in every follow-up communication, use the principles above within your unique context: 📜 Creating “sticky” experiences through storytelling is more effective for driving awareness and participation in social impact programs than relying solely on traditional communication tactics. 📈 The most significant engagement metric is whether employees want to tell stories about their experience with the social impact program – if not, it wasn’t a story-worthy experience. 💡 One final tip: during your event or campaign, ask employees to listen and watch for one story-worthy element to share on Slack or LinkedIn after the event. Everyone who shares on social (or your intranet) will be put in a drawing to win $100 to donate to their non-profit of choice. Keep reading to learn how to meaningfully engage before and during your event: https://bit.ly/44QKzQV #csr #socialimpact #esg

Imagine you’re a CSR manager, tasked with the daunting challenge of creating an employee volunteering program that not only makes a real difference in the community but also becomes a self-sustaining, integral part of your company’s culture. (Well, maybe you don’t even have to imagine). You’ve tried incentives, you’ve tried encouragement from leadership, but somehow, the momentum always seems to fizzle out. What if the key to unlocking the full potential of your program has been hiding in plain sight all along? Enter the “moral exemplar,” the unsung hero of the workplace who, through their quiet actions and unassuming influence, holds the power to transform the very fabric of your organization’s social impact. In a groundbreaking study published in the Journal of Management, researcher Michael J. Gill pulls back the curtain on the mysterious phenomenon of how employee volunteering spreads like wildfire through an organization, revealing the secret catalyst that CSR managers have been missing all along.
