Did you know? RA mentor/mentee weekly check-ins continue during the summer to ensure that each student feels connected and supported year round. Meet Katrina, one of our amazing every-week-all-year-round mentors! Katrina can be spotted kayaking all over the Seattle area when she's not mentoring. She’s has been a constant source of support for her mentee, cheering them on at school plays and on the soccer field. Her dedication and compassion inspires us all! 💙

About us
Rainier Athletes' mission is to affirm our youth’s sense of purpose and belonging by intentionally connecting their community of teachers, coaches, families, and mentors. Powered by a quickly growing community of mentors, the organization works collaboratively to mobilize a network of teachers, coaches, mentors, and families around the community's youth furthest from educational and social justice, ultimately cultivating a more inclusive environment for all. Each day of the school week, over 250 Bellevue School District teachers lean on the Rainier Athletes model in their classrooms to strengthen connections with some of their students. Each student is fully sponsored year-round to participate in extracurricular activities, paired with a dedicated mentor who meets with them weekly, and motivated to achieve both on and off the field through Rainier Athletes’ classroom engagement and self-advocacy model. Rainier Athletes makes a long-term investment in each student, first selecting a students in fifth grade and continuing support through high school graduation.

Linda, thank you for leadership, passion, and the reminder to stay curious. We are honored that you chose to support RA students on this journey!
I embarked on a journey to complete an epic challenge; I trained, I showed up, I conquered. Anyone who knows me well knows that I strive for personal growth and finding unique ways of giving back to my community. I’ve scaled a 19 story building to raise money for Habitat for Humanity-Spokane, I learned to ballroom dance and competed in Seattle Dances for Plymouth Housing and just this week I climbed Mt. Rainier to raise money for Rainier Athletes. This was a bucket list item for me and part of my 2024 Year of Epic “Stuff.” I faced rain, 50 mph wind gusts, and all sorts of mental roadblocks, but in the end I made it to the summit and saw the world from a whole new vantage point. We are all just a small microcosm of humanity, but we can make big impacts with our actions. Please consider a final pledge towards my Rainier 4 Rainier fundraiser at https://lnkd.in/ggRPT2JF Thank you to everyone who donated thus far, shared the link, cheered me on, or learned something new about Rainier Athletes. I hope you stay curious about what your boundaries are and continue to define who you are.

No way! You don't have to throw a perfect spiral to be a great mentor. RA students are eager to connect with mentors about all of their interests - they are artists, activists, engineers, and up-and-coming philosophers. Answers to more of our frequently asked questions about mentoring are on the RA website: https://loom.ly/jF_E_qc

Kishan Naik just celebrated three years working with RA! In his Operations Manager role, Kishan churns out numbers, data, and systems behind the scenes. That doesn’t stop him from connecting with the core of our work. Kishan is a dedicated mentor to a middle school student, provides academic support to RA high schoolers, keeps the tunes bumping in our office, and is always up for a passionate debate. Happy anniversary, Kishan!

Did you know? In addition to volunteers from the community, every Rainier Athletes staff member is a dedicated mentor to a student, regardless of their day-to-day roles. Check out the pics of Taylor Emmaus McGhee (High School & Beyond Program Manager) and Christa Mazzone Palmberg (Director of Development) hanging with their mentees! We believe that hands-on experience with mentoring infuses our mission into the ways we fundraise, communicate, and operate. It also means that we walk alongside our mentors and we’re right there when a mentor/mentee pair needs support or kudos 🤝

Meet Samir: UW student, RA intern, and dedicated mentor. With his knack for making everyone feel at ease, he turns every moment into something special. Samir's dedication shines through when he is on the go juggling school, his internship, and work. He never fails to show up for his mentee, even when it's when it's straight from work and covered in paint, embodying the true spirit of mentorship!
