This week at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, PVBLIC Foundation proudly supported the Global Institute for the future of Tourism (GIFT), Winds For Future, and the Advanced Leadership Foundation as they officially launched the World Summit on Energy Transition, set to take place on November 28th and 29th in Fortaleza, Ceará, northeastern Brazil. Jorge Brown, President of The Institute and CEO of the Advanced Vision Foundation, led delegates and guests from across the finance, technology, education, government, and tourism sectors through impactful discussions on multi-stakeholder opportunities for sustainable development and clean energy in Brazil. The forum began with a video demonstration of the Brazilian state of Ceará’s commitment to energy transition and sustainable development. João Salmito Filho, Secretary for Economic Development of Ceará, led attendees through a data-driven presentation on opportunities for sustainable energy production in the region followed by enlightening discussion on multinational and cross-sector partnerships. Greg Scott, Executive Director of the SDG Data Alliance, a program of PVBLIC Foundation, attended the 2024 Esri User Conference in San Diego from July 14th-18th. Let's recap some of his engagements! 👉National Geospatial Executive Summit (July 13) Greg discussed overcoming geospatial challenges in developing countries and emphasized the importance of strong partnerships. He also joined a panel on communicating geospatial value. 👉Senior Executive Summit (July 14) Invited by Esri President Jack Dangermond, Greg explored how GIS technology enhances decision-making and organizational impact. 👉Sustainable Development Community Spotlight (July 17) Greg showcased the SIDS Global Data Hub prototype and presented the SDG Data Alliance’s work in the Sustainable World Expo Pavilion. 👉Sustainable Development SIG (July 18) Greg joined an interactive panel with Esri and USAID, focusing on how GIS technology drives sustainable development. We’re thrilled that the SDG Data Alliance and SIDS Global Data Hub were highlighted by Jack Dangermond during the Opening Plenary, reaching an audience of 19,000 in person and 22,000 online. The 2024 edition of Cumbre de Impacto Iberoamericano is fast approaching! Hosted by PVBLIC Foundation, this invite-only event is the only Spanish-language gathering held at the United Nations Headquarters during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly. We will discuss the progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a special focus on Educational Transformation: Innovation and Sustainability for the Future. This year, we will bring together leaders of the highest level, including Heads of State, ministers, high-level executives, change agents, and NGOs, to promote strategic collaboration across the Ibero-American region. Our focus will be on advancing progress and mobilizing resources, data, and technology to achieve the SDGs throughout the region. PVBLIC Foundation is proud to share that from July 10th - 11th, the Cameroon SDG Data Hub Team, within PVBLIC's program, the SDG Data Alliance, hosted the National Technical Workshop. This event delved deep into data and its correspondence to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Held at the National Institute of Cartography, the Cameroon team, alongside dedicated stakeholders, embarked on the pivotal mission of establishing a Data Center for the SDGs. A dynamic group of 15 visionaries, representing eight government ministries and three agencies, alongside a dedicated CSO and an impactful NGO, united in collaboration and purpose. The Cameroon team also welcomed five new stakeholders into their journey, further broadening their collective impact and vision for a sustainable future. Additionally, ESRI participated and contributed to the workshop with insightful videoconference interventions. Board member Angelica Fuentes, businesswoman, impact investor, activist, and founder of Mission Moms, was invited to deliver keynote speaker remarks at the Annual International Women’s Business Symposium in Fort Hill, Texas. This week, PVBLIC Foundation President Stephen Keppel provided remarks during the Annual Observance & Celebration for UN World Oceans Day / Month co-hosted by The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Vanuatu to the UN and the NGO Committee on Sustainable Development-NY. The convening, held under the theme "Actions to Support Revitalizing Our Oceans," included experts and global leaders who shared their innovative initiatives to support revitalizing our oceans. The powerful gathering built upon momentum from the UN 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) hosted in May in Antigua and Barbuda. Stephen highlighted the importance of empowering Small Island Developing States (SIDS), vital economic stakeholders and stewards of our world's oceans, with financial recourses and digital tools. He highlighted the launch of the Development Bank for Resilient Prosperity initiative that came out of the SIDS4 Conference. The Multi-lateral Development Bank is designed to empower SIDS governments to leverage real-world natural assets to achieve more affordable and accessible financing to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
