The United Nations has just announced that it is launching the "NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora" program to accelerate climate action and align pledges with the #ParisAgreement. This initiative will involve regional meetings to help countries revise their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to meet the 1.5°C global temperature rise limit. Over 130 companies, including Unilever, Nestlé, IKEA, and Kering, have urged world leaders to take stronger action against biodiversity loss ahead of the United Nations' #COP16 Biodiversity Conference. The companies, part of the Business for Nature coalition and representing $1.1 trillion in combined revenues, are advocating for faster implementation of the #BiodiversityPlan, which aims to conserve and restore ecosystems by 2030. Signatory countries are expected to submit plans to meet goals like reducing pesticide use and promoting sustainable agriculture, though the U.S. is not among the signatories. New research shows that 58% of the largest companies in the U.S. are staying silent on genuine ESG progress due to greenwashing concerns. With global ESG assets over $30 trillion in 2022 and 85% of investors believing ESG assets yield better returns, according to Bloomberg as well as Kroll and Kyushu University, companies risk missing out on investments and consumer connections by not communicating their sustainability efforts. Brand Finance indicates that major brands are losing billions of dollars by failing to highlight their sustainability achievements. Additionally, Connected Impact and Ringer Sciences have revealed significant gaps between social media ESG messaging and actual disclosures in reports and corporate documents.
