July 6 is #International #WorldZoonosesDay World Zoonoses Day commemorates a historic Health Day: on 6 July 1885, French biologist Louis Pasteur successfully administered the first vaccine against rabies, a zoonotic disease. With global interconnections, any zoonotic outbreak can turn into a local epidemic and subsequently into a pandemic. Preventing zoonotic disease emergence by addressing the drivers of zoonotic pathogen spillover is at the heart of the #PREZODE mission. zeev noga Thierry Lefrançois Benjamin Roche Manon Lounnas Elsa Leger PAULA CACERES Marisa Peyre IPBES World Health Organization
About us
PREZODE is an international initiative promoting prevention, early detection, and resilience to rapidly respond to emerging infectious diseases of animal origin (zoonoses). It fosters multilateral collaboration with and between countries and other initiatives, to improve ecosystems management and to strengthen surveillance, with a multi-actor dynamic, thus maximizing impacts. The PREZODE initiative is based on a One Health approach, linking human health, animal health and environmental health. PREZODE works closely with the UN organization "Quadripartite" (FAO, WHO, WOAH, UNEP) and the One Health High Level Expert Panel (OHHLEP), to facilitate the development of recommendations for decision making. crédit photo IRD- Jimu, Angela

Climate change is helping the H5N1 bird flu virus spread and evolve 🦠The spread of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus H5N1 among animals is unprecedented — with the United Nations calling it “a global zoonotic animal pandemic.” H5N1 is a clear indication that disease monitoring and response efforts are an essential part of any climate change adaptation and mitigation strategy. 🌏“Simply put, the spread of influenza viruses around the globe is dictated by their ability to survive long enough in a place to be able to transmit elsewhere — and climate change is, in some cases, making this survival more likely. The recent cases of poultry-to-human and cattle-to-human transmissions underscore the threats posed by these viruses and the importance of understanding how climate change is affecting their spread.” 👉🏽 As a follow-up to our webinar last month, read the analysis from Nitish Boodhoo and Shayan Sharif from University of Guelph, a member of the PREZODE Community. It is crucial to keep monitoring & preventing to reduce pandemic risks. The Conversation France The Conversation US https://lnkd.in/eN_Zx4GX #ClimateChange #OneHealth #H5N1 #zoonosis

Join us on June 20th for the presentation of the World Health Organization /PREZODE indicators for the risk of zoonotic disease emergence.
🔭 New research available on indicators of #zoonotic exposure of human populations by World Health Organization and PREZODE. This is a great addition to strengthen available data, tools and indicators that contribute to #pandemic prevention and #preparedness. And the result of a great partnership and science-policy collaboration. 📢An #EPIWIN webinar is scheduled for this Thursday 20 June, 12:00-13:00 CEST to go through these indicators, designed to characterize the impact of prevention strategies over time and across the different stages of pathogen emergence. ➡ Link to register: https://lnkd.in/ewRN-CC4 Maria Van Kerkhove Alice S. zeev noga Benjamin Roche Serge Morand Amélie Schmitt Aya Amour Frédéric Boyer César Castelain Sarah Bayle Constant Pâris Cécile Adam Christian Walzer Matthew Stone WHO-Sylvie Briand Stéphanie Seydoux Chadia Wannous Jean-Philippe DOP Cécile Grimaldi Dr Serge Breysse Max Claron Benoit MIRIBEL One Sustainable Health for All Foundation Cheng Liang Julio Pinto Xiaoyi Wang Doreen Robinson Julian Blanc Katherine Madden Nadisha Sidhu Charlotte Germain-Aubrey

⚙️ PREZODE to contribute to the WHO’s main priorities 🌈 The World Health Assembly agreed on the 14th General Programme of Work of the World Health Organization. The programme sets a high-level road map for global health and will guide WHO’s for the 4 years 2025-2028. It aims to reinvigorate actions needed to get the health-related #SustainableDevelopmentGoals on track. The programme defines 6 priorities, 👉🏽 1. Respond to the escalating threat to health posed by climate change. 👉🏽 2. Address health determinants and root causes of ill health in key policies across sectors. 👉🏽 3. Advance primary health care and essential health system capacities for universal health coverage. 👉🏽 4. Improve health service coverage and financial protection to address inequity and gender inequalities. 👉🏽 5. Prevent, mitigate, and prepare for health risks from all hazards. 👉🏽 6. Rapidly detect and sustain the response to health emergencies. ⚡️✨🌍 🦇 Priorities n° 1, 5 and 6 are directly related to PREZODE objectives. The Initiative confirms its willingness to keep contributing to these main public health goals as a partner to the World Health Organization. zeev noga Benoit MIRIBEL WHO-Sylvie Briand Maria Van Kerkhove Marisa Peyre Thierry Lefrançois Aitor Nogales González Magda Robalo Debnath Nitish Manuelle Miller Casimiro Vizzini Neil Vora, MD Lucy Keatts Prisca Mugabe Wim van der Poel Christophe Cordevant
