About us
At Playworks we believe in the power of play to bring out the best in every kid. We are changing school climate by leveraging the power of safe, fun, and healthy play at school every day. We create a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, be active, and build valuable social and emotional skills. We partner with schools, districts, and after-school programs to provide a service or mix of services including on-site coaches, professional training for school staff who support recess, and consultative partnerships. Playworks’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of children by increasing opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play. Today, Playworks is the leading national nonprofit leveraging the power of play to transform children’s social and emotional health. Playworks currently serves more than 1,200 schools across the United States and reaches more than 700,000 students directly and through professional training services. http://2020.playworks.org/#play-movement

Leadership is nurtured through experience, guidance, and the joy of play. That is why Playworks’ Junior Coach Leadership Program equips youth leaders like Eliana with the tools to create safe and inclusive spaces for play. As a Junior Coach, Eliana has helped her peers learn games, play fair, and practice conflict resolution strategies. She even created a guide to pass all of the knowledge she gained on the playground to future generations of Junior Coaches! Will you help support future leaders like Eliana? https://lnkd.in/dcA-8VBU #youthleadership #donate #support #Playworksforeverykid

How can we best help elementary school aged kids thrive today and lay a strong foundation for our communities? By ensuring every kid plays every day. A study from child development and play expert Will Massey highlights the importance of recess on long-term social and emotional health. He notes that when kids play together, “it allows them to develop necessary skills, such as cooperative goal setting, teamwork, and emotional control.” Invest in play to invest in a brighter, more promising future for all of us. https://lnkd.in/dcA-8VBU #Playworksforeverykid #skilldevelopment #teamwork #goalsetting #emotionalcontrol #support

Making time for play at school is not frivolous, according to Dr. Arwa Nasir, a professor of pediatrics at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Psychosocial Aspects of Child and Family Health. “It is the means by which children learn about their environment, develop their social skills and emotional regulation skills, and is really necessary as a restorative and regenerative activity after the child — or the adult for that matter — have engaged in mentally or cognitively challenging tasks.” Explore how pediatricians, educators, and organizations like Playworks are working together to uplift the power of play. https://lnkd.in/g6SzSNz2 #socialskills #emotionalregulation #mentalhealth #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

Coach Jharel is one of many Playworks Coaches bringing the power of play to students’ lives every day. He shared, “Through play, I teach kids about communication and teamwork. They come back to class and they’re more comfortable with each other, they’re better at communicating with each other, and they’re more confident in their classrooms.” According to Principal Woods, the principal at Jharel’s school, “It has become a part of the fabric of our school. We couldn’t do what we do without Playworks.” https://lnkd.in/guxJ7WjF
