Happy Community Health Improvement Week! Community Health Improvement Week honors the people and organizations working in partnership to improve the health and well-being of individuals in community health settings and advance health equity. We are so grateful to be a community clinic and work together with the folks we serve to continue improving health care access, care outcomes, and the experiences of our patients and families. We believe that offering free health care to our community helps move us toward a more racially and economically just world where both treatment and good quality preventative care are more possible for more people. We also care deeply about providing care to people in rural areas, and those with mobility needs or limited access to transportation, so that no one has to experience hardship on the way to seeking medical care. Our mission is one that centers Community Health, and we're proud to be your neighbors in the Mississippi Delta. #CommunityHealthImprovementWeek

May Is National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month Estimates indicate that as many as 50 percent of Americans older than 50 will be at risk for osteoporosis fractures during their lifetimes. Osteoporosis is often called the “silent disease” because bone loss occurs without symptoms, but early diagnosis and treatment can reduce or prevent factures from occurring. As we age, fractures can have a dramatic impact on quality of life, robbing older adults of their independence and leading to other serious health outcomes. The good news is no matter what stage of life you’re in, you have the power make a difference. If as you're getting older you feel like you want to talk to a provider about how to get the bone health care you deserve, please visit one of our clinics. Check out this Quick Guide created by the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation to learn how to take action and connect to resources: https://lnkd.in/gj__6eHr

Today is National Asian & Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Although HIV rates are relatively low among API individuals compared to other racial and ethnic groups, the repercussion of HIV/AIDS in API communities still warrants attention. Stereotypes about API being the “model minority” contribute to their invisibility in strategies to address HIV domestically, and the impact of HIV/AIDS on these communities is often overlooked. The rate of viral suppression among Asian people in the U.S. (68%), is still higher than the national average (65%). For NAPIHAAD, we're hoping to help reduce HIV stigma in Asian, Native Hawaiian, & Pacific Islander communities while breaking down barriers to accessing care. Check out this resource hub to learn how we can all do more to support this community: https://lnkd.in/gF8arUrc

Today is Free the Pill’s 6th annual celebration of the day that the first birth control pill was approved by the US FDA back in 1960! This year’s Free the Pill Day will be the first one with an OTC birth control pill on the shelf! Today let's learn more about how Opill got on the shelf, spread evidence-based information about Opill and how to get it, and highlight the need for continued work to support equitable access—including advocating for full insurance coverage, low and no-cost options, and availability in stores and online without barriers. There is also a petition in the works to ensure that this pill is covered by insurance (no prescription required) across every state. Click here to read more and share this action with your networks: https://lnkd.in/gU5vHxf8 The first step in determining if this exciting new OTC option is right for you is talking to a doctor. We invite you to visit one of our clinic locations to learn more about all of your contraceptive options.

It's May and we're ready to have some real conversations about high blood pressure, hypertension, risk of stroke, and heart health. Under American Heart Association guidelines, nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure and 75% of those with high blood pressure do not have it controlled. This means there is more work to do to help American adults understand their numbers and risks of this “silent killer.” High blood pressure is often called the silent killer because might not have visible symptoms, but it’s a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Monitoring your own blood pressure at home can help you keep your blood pressure under control. Here are the facts about high blood pressure: https://lnkd.in/d4j_DWV Those with decreased health care access are far more likely to let minor symptoms go and wait until there is an emergency to seek medical care. That's one of the main reasons we created a mobile clinic, to make sure you're getting the preventative care you deserve. Visit our mobile clinic or brick and mortar location in Louise, MS to check in about your risk and learn more! #millionhearts #heartdisease #hypertension #stroke #strokemonth
