Today, we had an incredible Coffee, Careers, and Community event at Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority! A heartfelt thank you to all our community partners for attending and contributing to the rich discussions on workforce development, job accessibility, and poverty reduction in Pinellas County. Our guests received a warm welcome from our CEO, Brad Miller, then learned more about PSTA’s career opportunities, benefits, and our culture. They received presentations from our employee resource groups and enjoyed a diverse employee panel moderated by Christopher Macklin. On Friday, we welcomed the Lighthouse of Pinellas students in Transition Program at PSTA! The students learned about careers, participated in Mock Job Interviews, and rode the 300X to the Tampa Airport! ☺️🚌

Public transit helps reduce traffic and congestion, but only if the community uses it en masse. This year, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) is exploring new avenues to get more people "on board" with public transit. In a first-of-its-kind partnership, PSTA has partnered with a local St. Pete neighborhood that runs alongside the bus route. The transit authority's contract with the neighborhood, which asked for about $5,000, covers 600 passes for the first year. Members of the Historic Kenwood Neighborhood Association can pick up a pass for unlimited access to the SunRunner, buses, and trolleys. With the Association incurring dues of $35 per year, if a household uses the pass seven times in a year, the membership will have paid for itself. In a time when housing and transportation expenses are at an all-time high, this initiative offers a win for residents and a win for public transit. PSTA is tracking data from this pilot program closely, and we look forward to learning more about the successes and lessons gained.
