Today, our #summerinterns visited Jenkins Law Library, America's first and oldest library! We enjoyed learning about their extensive resources for legal research and got to check out their rare books room, where we saw a legal directory from 1893.

I’m happy to share that I’ve started a new position as a Summer Intern with the HIPAA & Privacy Law Unit at the City of Philadelphia - Law Department! So glad to be back in the City of Brotherly Love!

Yesterday, Mayor Cherelle Parker announced a renewal of the Verizon Franchise agreement, which was set to expire next month on Sunday, August 25, 2024. First granted to Verizon in 2009, the agreement has been renewed for five years. In addition to providing cable services, the agreement with Verizon will help transform and modernize City recreation centers and their access to the Internet. The Law Department’s Commercial Law Unit was proud to support our client, the Office of Innovation and Technology, to research, draft, and negotiate this agreement. Attorneys Rachel Castillo Rosser and John Gibbons, and intern, Rebecca Zaki, attended the press conference.

The Law Department's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee commemorated Juneteenth with a crafting activity in LOVE Park. We spray painted t-shirts and card board with colors and imagery representing the holiday, which marks the date in 1865 when the last enslaved people in Galveston, TX, were informed of their freedom. #Juneteenth #DEI #OfficeCrafts

I had the honor of being admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court today with the Philadelphia Bar Association.

On Wednesday, Mayor Cherelle Parker signed the #ConsumerProtection Ordinance into law. The ordinance, introduced by City Councilmember at-Large Rue Landau on behalf of the Parker Administration, empowers the City of Philadelphia to respond to scams and fraud harming Philadelphia consumers and obtain tangible relief to those who need it the most. “The Consumer Protection Ordinance provides the Law Department with the ability to investigate and initiate legal action under existing state law against businesses that repeatedly exploit and mislead our hardworking residents,” said City Solicitor Renee Garcia. “I applaud the City Council and Mayor Parker for their efforts to implement this important legislation which will make the city safer to business in, and we look forward to expanding our role in the effort to promote a secure and equitable local economy.” Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/etJgwaEV.
