  • Most people who have Medically Tailored Meal benefits don't KNOW that they have a meal benefit!! Now of course the big question is... How do I find out if my patient qualifies for medically tailored meals? 🔹 Step 1: Go to our Home Page and use the Benefit Locator Tool right here: https://lnkd.in/gSmw9zkX 🔹 Step 2: Click the BUTTON, and Enter YOUR (NOT THE PATIENT) information, including Zip Code to find out if there are benefits in your area 🔹 Step 3: If you get a message that says, "Benefits exist in your area," THEN 🔹 Step 4: Have your PATIENT to to the Homepage and CLICK THE BUTTON and enter THEIR information. They will get an answer, and IF they likely have benefits, PK will contact them and handle the rest! If you find NO BENEFITS IN YOUR AREA YET, Hang tight! We're working on it! In the meantime, ADVOCATE FOR FOOD IS MEDICINE AND MEDICALLY TAILORED MEALS IN YOUR INSTITUTION OR AREA. and FOLLOW US HERE ON LinkedIn! #foodismedicine

  • Question: “Which vitamins are actually beneficial and worth taking?” Answer: Supplement regimens should be recommended on an individual basis. However, there are a few common nutrients that most people are lacking. The top three supplements I suggest for almost all of my clients are: 🥑 Omega-3s - Omega-3 fatty acids are also called essential fats. They support cellular health, offer anti-inflammatory benefits, and may have protective heart health benefits too. 🧋 Probiotics - Probiotics support digestive wellness (aka, gut health) which has a large impact on your overall health. ☀️ Vitamin D3 - An estimated 42% of US adults are deficient in the so-called “sunshine vitamin” which is necessary to absorb calcium and support healthy bones. Studies show that people with higher levels of vitamin D have a lower risk of disease. Finally, if you have food allergies or sensitivities, you don't consume a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, or you follow any kind of restrictive diet (i.e. vegan, vegetarian, keto, etc.) then I recommend taking a multivitamin for extra support. #foodismedicine

  • Vegan vs Whole Foods diet: what's the difference (and why try either)!? 🍇 A whole-food, plant-based diet doesn’t necessarily exclude animal products, however it emphasizes whole, unrefined, minimally processed plant foods. It’s a diet based around whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, lentils, nuts and seeds. There are no strict guidelines for what it entails other than focusing on plant-foods and avoiding highly processed foods. 🥦 Vegan diets exclude all foods derived from animals, even eggs and dairy. Research indicates that a balanced diet full of plant-based foods can provide a multitude of health benefits. Both a vegan diet and a whole foods, plant based diet can be a healthy eating pattern, when done correctly. It really depends on what you choose to eat! You can find foods that are technically vegan, but have little or no nutritional benefit. The same goes for a WFPB diet: if you only eat celery, you're not getting the balance of nutrients you need to function. Because a WFPB diet emphasizes unrefined, unprocessed foods derived from plants, it tends to encourage healthy choices, but, as always, the key is to consume a range of plant-based foods to ensure you're getting everything your body needs. #foodismedicine

  • Plant-based eating is now a $7 billion market in the United States!! Whether you are the vegetarian, vegan or flexitarian almost 40% of Americans are shifting to a plant-based diet according to 2018 Nielsen report. But why? Years of research has shown to support overall health, including a lower risk of developing coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, certain cancers (colorectal) and increased longevity. A plant-based diet supplies all the essential nutrients, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals of a healthy diet. Plant based diets are usually higher in fiber and phytonutrients. However, some vegans may need to add vitamin B12 supplement to ensure they receive all the nutrients required. Plant-based eating has seen an explosion in the past few decades! Are you mainly plant-based? Do you recommend this diet to your clients? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments! #foodismedicine
