📣 I’m excited to share the second episode of Pear Healthcare Playbook's Medicaid Series, brought to you by Pear VC! In this episode, we interview Tracy Douglas, the CEO of Virginia Community Healthcare Association, which is a primary care association representing Virginia’s Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Look-Alike Centers (LALs).
If you don’t know what those are — no worries 😉, tune in to learn more about this bedrock provider of services for Medicaid members. Unlike our traditional founder stories, this episode aims to help listeners understand the Medicaid landscape. Accompanying this episode is the first in a series of basic primers on the subject. ✅ Tracy Douglas, with over 25 years in healthcare administration, has held executive roles in FQHCs in Indiana and Maryland. She's led operations in various healthcare settings, including pediatric centers of excellence and a large health system’s managed care division. Currently, as CEO of the VCHA, she oversees operations, program development, and fiscal control, advocating for members with policymakers to enhance primary care access for the underserved in VA. In this episode Tracy and I discussed:
⭐ An overview of FQHCs and LALs, their operational scope, and their financing methods
⭐ The challenges faced by FQHCs
⭐ The process FQHCs use to evaluate and select vendors
⭐ Opportunities available for builders
If you’re intrigued by this teaser, check out the episode below and the read-along substack guide. Also watch out for yours truly regularly confusing FQHCs with FHQCs. Acronyms in Healthcare → IYKYK 😅
