Despite the recent rise in initial jobless claims, layoffs have decreased 7% on a year-over-year basis, much lower than the trend in 2023 and 2019. Bearish investors ought to look elsewhere for evidence of a slowdown in the latter half of 2024. #COTW #PaydenEconomics

The May U.S. core CPI registered a 0.2% month-to-month rise. Markets celebrated, but the situation is far more complex, as shelter prices have shown no signs of slowing for the past 11 months. Hope for more progress but remain cautious. #COTW #PaydenEconomics

Mr Clifford, a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, UK, joins Payden from Mercer where he was a Principal in Mercer’s Insurance Solutions Team. He brings over twenty years of experience working with sophisticated insurance companies to Payden’s broader insurance-investment team.
