In 2014, PARTNERNOMICS® was founded by Mark Brigman, Ph.D. on the belief that “there has to be a better way to lead partnerships.” Studies commonly show that Channel partnerships experience 80-90% failure rates and Solutions partnerships see a 70% failure rate. Our belief set us on a mission to create THE global standard B2B partnership methodology. Since then, we’ve developed the first partner operations software native to Salesforce.com® that executes a holistic partnering methodology (PARTNERNOMICS IQ). We offer the only university-backed partnering methodology certification which has been earned by partnering professionals from organizations of all sizes — startups to Fortune 10. Our proprietary software, methodology, certifications, and implementation services allow clients to efficiently adopt the science of partnering and achieve operational excellence in each of their partnering programs.     What Does "Strategic Partnership" Really Mean? 🤝 In the business world, we often come across the terms "strategic" and "partnerships." But what does it mean when we combine the words - a strategic partnership? Breaking It Down: Drawing from my 25+ years in partnerships, I think the term "strategic partner" is among the most misused designations to describe a relationship. The literal definition describes a coveted relationship where the combination of unique capabilities promises to result in a competitive advantage, which delivers exponential profitability. In the Tech Industry: - Strategic Partnerships involves blending two solutions to create a new value-added solution. These relationships are centered on combining unique innovations that result in a desired and more efficient outcome for end users. In Channel Partnerships: - Strategic Partnerships are formed when companies have an abnormally high level of alignment between their customer bases, which results in a significantly lower customer acquisition cost, among other benefits.     Shifting from a longstanding direct sales model to a partner-led strategy is a significant endeavor, particularly for a well-established company. This transition demands more than mere strategic planning; it necessitates a profound organizational mindset change and the transformation of a go-to-market motion. Essential Steps for Visionary Executives: Construct a Convincing Argument: Acknowledge and candidly communicate that the traditional sales approach is increasingly less effective. Present a compelling case for why the organization needs to invest in a partnership ecosystem to more efficiently capture revenue. Foster Consensus: Achieve collective agreement on the necessity for change. This unity forms the bedrock of successful transformation. Articulate Partnership Vision: The executive team must define what partnering means for the organization and specifically describe the types of partnerships that will be utilized to achieve the company's growth objectives. Establish a Robust Foundation: Implement a proven partnering methodology, such as PARTNERNOMICS, that everyone in the organization can understand and support.     The Organizational Partnering Plan (OPP) process aims to achieve clarity, focus, and alignment as key goals. Many organizations, especially those used to direct sales, have a very independent culture, where it's "us versus the world." This mindset often means taking on all the weight and challenges alone. However, when companies shift to a partnering strategy, they move from being independent to becoming dependent or interdependent, which can be intimidating. This shift requires open conversations to get everyone comfortable and clear about what partnering means for the organization. For mature and traditionally independent companies, this transformation is significant. The ingrained independent mindset still lingers, and shifting to a collaborative approach takes time and effort.
