So what does it really mean to "research the job"? Paragon's Michael Witcoskie breaks it down into actionable steps, starting with researching the person(s) you will be speaking with in this week's #RecruitingTipTuesday 👇 You’ve got the interview for your perfect job! What do you need to know for the interview? Everyone says to research the job, but what does that mean? Let’s break it down.  ⭐ Research the person(s) you will be speaking with.   ⭐ Research the individual job using the job description, but it’s probably not all there.   ⭐ Research the company (admittedly, this is difficult).  This is part one of a four-part series. Let’s call it my ode to Fast and Furious, Star Wars, Bourne Identity. 🧑💻Today, let’s tackle researching your interviewer(s). One way to research the interviewer is to find what you have in common. Go to their LinkedIn page. You want them to get a notification that you viewed their page. This way, they know that you are doing your homework.  > What school(s) did they go to?   > Where have they worked?  > Did you work at a competitor?   > Have they worked with someone you know?   > Is there someone out there that you didn’t realize could give you a recommendation for this position?   > Do we have shared experiences from our past that can help shape our future together? People have mentioned my past career in coaching basketball and spoken about coaching their son or daughter’s team. Does it automatically get you to the next stage? Absolutely not, but it does let me know that you have done your homework and are very interested in this position. Probably even more importantly, you are going to do your research when we put you in front of a client.  I’ll be back later this week with tips on researching the job better.  #RecruitingTipTuesday #ParagonLegal #Recruiting #JobSearch #Careers #CareerDevelopment #FlexibleLegalTalent

CEO of Paragon Legal | Rightsourcing in-house law departments with flexible legal talent

“I saw that you went to Penn Law - so did my cousin! Do you like Pat's or Gino's better? Me too! What a small world!” How many times have you had these conversations with candidates during an interview process? They're kinda fun, right? But they will set you up for failure. There’s a lot to be said for networking your way to a job, and I love the small talk that allows you to get to know someone on a personal level. However, I’m wary of candidates getting a subsconscious advantage because of a personal connection, over someone better suited for the job. So at Paragon Legal we implemented a hiring system to remove as much bias in the interview process as possible - to focus on getting the right person for the job. How do we do it? 1️⃣ Get aligned internally - we get crystal clear on what we're looking for in this position, and what makes a candidate a good fit for the role 2️⃣ Give every candidate the same experience at each stage - this means we ask the same questions, in the same order, by the same interviewer for both the screening process and all interview rounds 3️⃣ Limit the pleasantries - it may sound harsh, but the classic law school talk and previous firm name drop is not what we’re interested in learning about (yet!) 4️⃣ No internal discussion or deliberation until all candidates are interviewed - we don’t want any shifting opinions based on what a colleague said 5️⃣ Honest, relevant reactions - in the deliberation, all interviewers give their immediate and unbiased assessment at the same time on the count of three, before we discuss feedback based on the important characteristics we aligned on in step 1 Of course we give candidates the opportunity for informal small talk or follow-up conversations as well - we value these candidates’ personalities and nuances since they'll be a member of our team. But ultimately, we want to balance any unconscious bias to create a fair hiring process and hire the best candidate for the job. We continually iterate on this process, and it’s worked out well for us. We have a kickass team, and an interview process that candidates appreciate, even if they are denied.

Today, as we celebrate Juneteenth, let's take a moment to reflect on its profound significance and the ongoing journey toward equality and inclusion. This day marks a pivotal moment in American history, but it also reminds us of the work still ahead. Last year, we shared an article with meaningful ways to honor Juneteenth and celebrate Black Americans' rich history and culture. These resources are just as impactful today: https://lnkd.in/e6E3xTUR Whether through education, community involvement, or personal reflection, let's continue to learn, grow, and advocate for a more inclusive future. How will you be honoring Juneteenth this year? #Juneteenth #Equality #Inclusion #Diversity #History #Community
