This week's Plant Post features: Catmint (Nepeta), a perennial herb from the mint family prized for its aromatic foliage and medicinal properties. Thriving in sunny, well-drained areas, this resilient plant blooms with lavender-blue flowers that attract pollinators. Catmint is favored in gardens for its low maintenance and pest-repelling qualities. Varieties such as Nepeta racemosa 'Walker's Low' and Nepeta x faassenii add ornamental value. Ideal for companion planting, occasional pruning ensures its optimal growth.

As we anticipate hot weather this week and into the weekend, we've conducted refresher training to protect our team. We've adjusted schedules, provided ample ice and water, and instituted additional breaks to manage the heat. During training, we emphasized staying hydrated, recognizing heat-related signs, and wearing appropriate gear for comfort and safety. Communication is key, so team members are encouraged to voice any concerns promptly. These efforts aim not only to safeguard health but also to maintain productivity and morale. We're committed to ensuring a safe and supportive workplace, even in challenging weather. Stay cool and have a safe and happy Fourth of July! 🎆

Have you noticed these beauties beginning to bloom? Hydrangeas, beloved for their large, showy flower heads and lush foliage, belong to the genus Hydrangea, which includes a diverse array of species and cultivars. Their vibrant colors—ranging from blue and pink to white and green—are influenced by soil pH and variety. Thriving in moist, well-drained soil and partial shade, they are versatile additions to shaded areas in gardens and landscapes. Hydrangeas typically bloom from late spring to early autumn, providing continuous delight throughout the growing season.

Last Thursday, Mauricio Flores, our dedicated team member and branch manager at our Salem Branch, completed his first year in a two-year Salem Leadership Cohort, a program jointly conducted by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and Atkinson Graduate School-Willamette University. To commemorate the end of their first year, the cohort collaborated on a community service project. After careful consideration, they chose to support a local non-profit organization, Salem For Refugees. Their efforts included assembling home kits, assisting a new resident in settling into their apartment, and sprucing up the organization's premises. PLM Salem contributed generously to the project by providing resources such as a pressure washer, production truck, tools, and barkdust for the project. Special thanks also goes to Bark Boys, Inc. Salem, Oregon for their contribution in working with us to provide the barkdust. Way to go Mauricio Flores - Sanchez! 👏🎉
