At the Pacific Institute, every day is #WorldWaterDay. This World Water Day, the theme #WaterForPeace spotlights how #water can be at the center of peacebuilding. Our work provides evidence-based research to catalyze the transformation to #WaterResilience by 2030. And more specifically, our #WaterConflict research is part of a wide breadth of work situated at the intersection of water, justice, and peace. The Pacific Institute creates and advances solutions to the world's most pressing water challenges.
About us
The Pacific Institute envisions a world in which society, the economy, and the environment have the water they need to thrive now and in the future. In pursuit of this vision, the Institute creates and advances solutions to the world’s most pressing water challenges, such as unsustainable water management and use; climate change; environmental degradation; food, fiber, and energy production for a growing population; and basic lack of access to fresh water and sanitation. Since 1987, the Pacific Institute has cut across traditional areas of study and actively collaborated with a diverse set of stakeholders, including policymakers, scientists, corporate leaders, international organizations such as the United Nations, advocacy groups, and local communities. This interdisciplinary and nonpartisan approach helps bring diverse interests together to forge effective real-world solutions.

“Ensuring a Net Positive Water Impact (NPWI) isn't just a corporate responsibility; it's an essential commitment to building long-term water resilience. By investing in initiatives that go beyond mere water conservation to actively replenishing and restoring water resources, companies not only safeguard the environment but also secure their own resilience in the face of water scarcity challenges. Embracing this ambition isn't just about doing what's right – it's about thriving in a world where water is increasingly precious.” Dr. Gregg Brill, Senior Researcher, Pacific Institute and Technical Lead, CEO Water Mandate Learn more about the NPWI strides made in 2023 in the #WaterResilienceCoalition Impact Report: https://lnkd.in/gfHiMGkN #CEOWaterMandate #PacificInstitute #WaterResilience

In October 2023, the #WaterResilienceCoalition and WaterAid joined by Gap Inc., Cargill, and GSK launched the Women + Water Collaborative, a flagship corporate #CollectiveAction program to improve access to clean water and sanitation in India. This is one of 21 collective action projects in 15 basins underway across Asia, Africa, South America, and North America as part of the Water Resilience Coalition’s 2030 ambition to build water resilience across 100 Priority Basins. As said by André Villaça Ramalho, Water Resilience Coalition Coordinator, "The W+W Initiative will leverage women’s leadership to build water resilience, improve water security, and enable equitable access to water and sanitation for communities across India.” Learn more in the Water Resilience Coalition 2023 Impact Report: https://lnkd.in/gfHiMGkN

In a compelling episode of PBS News Hour series on climate change and water, "Tipping Point," Peter Gleick, Senior Fellow and Co-Founder of the Pacific Institute, sheds light on the critical state of the Ogallala Aquifer. As we witness significant depletion in vital water reservoirs across the U.S., notably in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, the call for sustainable water management becomes increasingly urgent. Peter explains, "The overdraft of the Ogallala Aquifer is the result of a whole series of factors. In part, it's because farmers have brought a tremendous amount of land into production and that requires a lot of water. In part, it's because climate change is reducing the amount of water going to recharge those aquifers.” Watch the full clip here: https://lnkd.in/eq8ektWd #WaterResilience #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateChange #PacificInstitute #PBSNewsHour Geoff Bennett | Kansas Geological Survey | Global Water Partnership | Texas Water Development Board | Oklahoma Rural Water Association | Will Lawrence | Quinton Lucas | Gary White | Tracy Quinn P.E. | Adán Ortega Jr. | Nicole Lampe | Travis Loop.
