Community-based food platform empowering local cooks to share homemade meals with their neighbors

About us

At Shef, we’re rebuilding the food system from scratch, redefining who can participate in the food economy, and returning personal connection to the making, eating, and sharing of food. We are an online marketplace for local, food safety certified cooks to connect with customers in their community and earn a meaningful income selling homemade dishes. In the three years since we delivered our very first order, we have now expanded to serve more than 60 million people in 10 states and over 1.6 million meals have made their way onto dinner tables across the country. Each prepared with love and care by passionate neighbors and reminding us that there’s no taste like home. Join us: shef.com/careers

Home is more than a roof over your head; it's about community. This #SecondChanceMonth, we're teaming up with Impact Justice to provide fresh, home cooked meals to people returning from prison as part of their work to support safe, successful reentry through The Homecoming Project. #SecondChanceMonth recognizes the importance of supportive reentry for people returning home after incarceration. Every year, 30,000 people are released from jails and prisons in California; Impact Justice's Homecoming Project matches people returning from prison with host families to support their transition home. If you're in the Bay Area, help us welcome formerly incarcerated folks back into our community by donating a meal to a Homecoming Project participant! 1. Select your delivery date + dishes on Shef! 2. At checkout, select “Donate a meal to the Homecoming Project." 3. Choose the quantity of meals you’d like to donate! 4. Enjoy your meal! A Homecoming Project participant is also enjoying a meal that you made possible.

An appreciation post for Shef. Today, I tried delicious Ethiopian food prepared by an Ethiopian lady. This authentic experience is courtesy Shef, a Y Combinator backed startup. It's an online marketplace where you can order homemade dishes from local people. Indian food made by Indian moms, Mexican food made by Mexican chefs at home - what more could you ask for? I feel grateful that we live in an era where we can experience new things, thanks to technology. My first ride in a Tesla was courtesy Uber. I have stayed at so many amazing places, thanks to Airbnb. Tech is such a force for good. Thanks to Rakesh Goyal and Niki Khokale for recommending Shef. Kudos to Alvin Salehi and Joey Grassia for building this amazing platform. #tech #tech4good #shef #generativeai #butternutai
