I recently facilitated an Online News Association #AI Innovator Collaborative meeting where 35 journalists (Maggie Farley, David Cohn, Meghan Murphy, Mike Reilley, David Clinch, Florencia Coelho, Emilia Askari, Ian Hill, Davar Ardalan, Lowell Robinson & more) shared their experiences with various AI tools. The discussion provided fascinating insights into their usage, preferences, and the challenges they face. Here is my recap:

I was truly honored last year to be recognized with the Online News Association Community Award for my work leading The Open Notebook, where everything we do is focused on empowering journalists all over the world to tell powerful and informative stories about science, health, the environment, and technology. This special award honors community builders in journalism who often work behind the scenes to create inclusive environments and workspaces where journalists can do their best work. Past recipients have included Siri Carpenter, recognized for her work building a thriving community and robust resources for science journalists through The Open Notebook; Doug Mitchell, a longtime mentor extraordinaire whose dedication has opened career opportunities for numerous journalists of color and young journalists; and Manori Wijesekera, honored for her work delivering journalism training to women in some of the world's least covered regions.
