If you visit the OKC HQ on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you'll likely see him at the front desk! When he's not busy with his MDS major in Real Estate and Nonprofit Management at the University of Oklahoma, you can find him hanging out with friends, watching sports, or jamming on his guitar. Many years ago when Dan and I were working on a ONE Awards script, I suggested we use the quote attributed to John Wesley "Do All the Good You Can". That was the day that Dan and I really put into words the work we were both committed to doing - all the good we could. I could never have found a better partner in that work than Dan. "Do All the Good You Can" Dan devoted his life to being a "do gooder," and while he would hate being called that, everywhere Dan went he did good! "By All the Means You Can" I never heard Dan say "we can't do that!" He was the solution guy. He would find a way to get it done. His excitement about new ideas and his ability to strategize about the future was contagious. "In All the Ways You Can" Dan did everything he could to support me, and I know he did the same for all of you. "In All the Places You Can" Dan loved to move and he loved to travel. He could be found in lots of places! Life was always an adventure with Dan. "At All the Times You Can" 24/7 Dan was "on call" to all of us. He and I would talk or text twenty times a day - morning, noon, and night. He was a big communicator and I know many of you had the exact experience I had. He had abundant energy because he loved his life so much. "To All the People You Can" Everyone thought Dan was their best friend - and he was! He was everyone's best friend, his capacity to connect and care was enormous. He just had a heart so, so big that he could love us all. "As Long as Ever You Can" This is where there are no words. The only comfort I can find is that he "came home" to OKCNP. Our friend Deena Fisher said the night I called her with the news, through her tears, "Marnie. He died happy." Dan, your long was not nearly long enough. There is no one to replace you but we will have to move on in a different way; making this world a better place because that is what you would want us to do. This world will not be the same without you dear friend.

With heavy hearts, we share the news of Dan Billingsley's (Daniel B.) passing after a short but serious illness. Dan was an invaluable member of our team for over a decade and a passionate supporter of our mission and Oklahoma's nonprofit sector. He was not only a dedicated colleague but also a close friend to many of us. Dan joined us as Director of Resource Development and Communications in 2012, became Vice President of External Affairs in 2013 and remained part of our leadership team until 2021, when he left to start his own consulting practice for nonprofits. Over the past six months, he played a key role as a consultant and recently rejoined our team as Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer. With over 25 years of service to the nonprofit sector, Dan was an outstanding strategist with broad expertise and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a talented opera singer, holding Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Performance. He also valued continued education, earning a Master’s degree in Journalism and a Doctor of Philosophy in Community Health and Development. He will be deeply missed. Join us for a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, June 26, 2024,from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m., with remarks at 5:15 p.m. at the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits OKC HQ.

  • We could not have dreamed of a more beautiful, touching, and special celebration for Dan Billingsley's time on earth. As many said last night, his impact on each and every one of us will never be forgotten. His influence on the nonprofit sector as a whole will continue to guide and motivate us to always strive for excellence and to continue doing good in this world. It was a packed house with Dan's peers, friends, family, colleagues, and even his beloved fur baby, Poppy, in attendance. Thank you, Dan, for the impact you have made on each of us personally and professionally. We miss you and love you immensely. May you rest in peace.🕊️
