  • The Karen Wellington Foundation for LIVING with Breast Cancer (KWF) is an incredible organization that OHC has partnered with for several years. KWF brings hope to breast cancer patients through gifts of FUN, from beach vacations, spa days, backstage passes, and more. Their mission is to put FUN on the calendars of women and families LIVING with breast cancer. Many OHC patients have been previous recipients of KWF and we are proud to support such a positive organization in their goals. Visit https://lnkd.in/g4wNEHY7 to learn more. Recently, Susie Osha and Siena Villeneuve from KWF hosted a table outside the OHC Eastgate office, providing Lemons to Lemonade boxes to breast cancer patients actively undergoing treatment. These boxes include several goodies to help patients find the strength and resilience in the choice to keep on LIVING ON. OHC breast surgical oncologist Dr. Abby Tremelling and advanced practice provider Lindsey Miller stopped by the table to show their gratitude to KWF for their continued support to all breast cancer patients. #KarenWellingtonFoundation #BreastCancerAwareness #CancerSupport #LemonsToLemonade #LivingWithCancer #HopeForPatients

  • Have you met OHC medical oncologist and hematologist Benjamin T. Herms, MD? Dr. Herms is a respected member of the OHC team. He specializes in lung cancer and genitourinary cancer. Dr. Herms approaches cancer care with compassion, as he takes the time to get to know his patients. This provides him the opportunity to offer additional support along their cancer journey. Read below what some of his patients have had to say. “He is very personable, very friendly, for as many people that he probably sees sometimes it's hard to stay personable, you become a machine sending people through the conveyor belt. He has somehow maintained his personable demeanor. He gave me the feeling that he would like to help if he could. That's usually all a person wants.” Google, June 2024 “Dr. Herms got me thru a really tough time. I would recommend him to anyone who is dealing with cancer.” Google, May 2024 “I have been a patient for almost 5 years. He and his staff are professional and very caring. He truly cares about me. Director, Early Phase Clinical Trials at Oncology-Hematology Care

Today marked a very significant mile stone for OHC and it’s research team. We had the privilege of dosing our first Imdelltra (Tarlatamab-dlle) patient. Only a month ago the FDA granted accelerated approval to Tarlatamab, a bi-specific T cell engager (BiTE) for the treatment of small cell lung cancer that had progressed on or after platinum based chemotherapy. This marks the first BiTE therapy to be approved for the treatment of a major solid tumor. The approval is based upon findings from the phase 2 DeLLphi-301 study (NCT 05060016). OHC participated in this important trial, with Dr. Patrick Ward of OHC serving as the site principal investigator. Pictured below is our grateful patient, together with myself and Dr. Kruti Patel from our cellular therapy group. I have learned a lot from this group about the management of such patients and am looking forward to sharing these learnings. We also need to recognize the patient’s referring oncologist, Dr. Joseph See from Dayton, OH. Dr. See put his patient’s interest above his own - the true sign of great provider. It takes an army of committed researchers and dedicated providers, as well as the commitment of innovative companies such as Amgen, to develop an idea into a reality. I am privileged to be in the company of such people and humbled by the opportunity to serve these patients. Another great day to be an oncologist!

  • The OHC Genetic Risk Evaluation and Testing Program (GREAT) provides testing and counseling for people who may be at risk for hereditary cancer. Elizabeth Burneka, MSN, APRN, AOCNP, is on the genetics team and explains the process for those eligible. “Our team helps those at-risk make informed decisions about their healthcare needs. We will determine your eligibility first with a comprehensive personal and family history. Depending on your history, cancer genetic testing may be ordered. Our genetics specialists will go over the results with you and if you are found to have a positive genetic link to cancer, we will provide you with an individualized care plan that could include surveillance, risk-reduction medications, or preventative surgery. A positive genetics diagnosis will also include identifying those family members who may need to be informed. We offer free cancer genetics testing to your immediate family members living locally, if you test positive. Genetic testing is useful in helping to make educated choices about your future. In a way, it serves as a road map to risk reduction. It is also important to understand that a positive result does not mean you WILL be diagnosed with cancer. It simply means we need to take steps going forward to help reduce risk and evaluate with screenings to find things sooner rather than later.” To learn more about the OHC GREAT Program, please visit ohcare.com. You do not have to be an OHC patient to be seen by our genetics specialists. #CancerGenetics #GeneticTesting #HereditaryCancer #PreventativeCare #FamilyHistory #HealthcareDecisions #GeneticCounseling
