To torund out Pride Month and keep the conversation going, ODEIB's Mary Ellen LaRosa sat down with LGBTQ+ Rights Committee Co-Chair Hayley Gorenberg to discuss the vital topic of creating inclusive environments. During the conversation, they delve into the underlying social forces – e.g. professionalism, heteronormativity, cis sexism, ableism – and their roots in white supremacy. We can all train ourselves to recognize and interrupt dynamics of exclusion in order to produce more inclusive environments. And we can all learn to spot the gaps in understanding the are a byproduct of our privileges, as well as learn to own and correct our mistakes without defensiveness. Doing this work can be a process of growth and creativity! It’s not all blame and shame. We encourage you all to listen, reflect, and share your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/eSc-4RjR #InclusiveWorkplaces #DEIB #Allyship #NewYorkCityBarAssociation

Loeb Leadership brings this important dialogue to the table. In this panel dialogue, we will explore the recurring pattern of short-lived allyship, from initial enthusiasm to exhausted retreat in the realm of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). We will cover the most recent example of this cycle, beginning with the resurgence of DE&I commitments across various sectors following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. This pattern echoes many historical instances where progress for different marginalized communities was abruptly reversed due to political shifts or societal resistance. We will discuss the persistent cycle of broken promises and performative allyship that fails to create lasting change. The deeper question is why this cycle persists, and how today’s leaders should seek informed strategies and remain committed to genuine inclusivity, especially as newer generations enter the workforce with strong support for DE&I values. The panel will propose action items to be implemented going forward to increase inclusion under the current environment, with the goal of breaking the cycle.
