Last month, an update from CEO Alexandra Reeve Givens: Center for Democracy & Technology Leads Breakthrough Work on Gender Justice. 👩💻 This summer, CDT published resources assessing the landscape for #HealthPrivacy. We've informed new laws, led a Dobbs Task Force, & reviewed state "shield laws" enacted over the past two years. Our recent efforts include a blog on the evolving privacy landscape, an op-ed on the right to anonymity online, and hosting of a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Civil Rights HIPAA ruling briefing. We also launched a multistakeholder group with Cyber Civil Rights Initiative and The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) to combat non-consensual intimate imagery, responding to the White House's call to action. This initiative exemplifies CDT's role in driving change through collaboration & expertise. https://lnkd.in/ezvfXAJa #EndImageAbuse #TechForGood

"Often people in BigLaw say the reason women don't stay is because they have kids and their priorities change, but I don't think that's the case," Kirby said. "I think that it's more about the environment and whether they see it as a place where they'll be supported and have an opportunity to advance and not have to swim against the stream." As a female partner with children, and as a someone who has represented many female partners with children, I could not agree with this more. So often articles blame the lack of career advancement for women on children (women want [insert different work structure] because they're expected to take care of the kids at home). In my experience, every parent wants a work structure that allows them to be present with their children, regardless of gender. Separately, the reason women (regardless of parenthood status) aren't in more leadership positions, or are choosing to forego BigLaw partnership, has much more to do with environments that are unwelcoming and inequitable to women. Fix the fundamental gender bias, and my bet is more women will want to stick around in BigLaw! https://lnkd.in/efGi2aU5

Connecting the dots between clearance policy + reality | serial community builder | writer | bibliophile
One of the favorite parts about working in a creative profession is the chance to take personal experiences and turn them into opportunities to learn, amplify issues that affect others, and grow awareness in our community. I came across Nina Jankowicz's book 'How to Be a Woman Online' and found it to be the perfect, pithy, and wise guide to being a woman online in divisive times. As we gear up for another election cycle, the ‘deep state divide’ remains an issue, and disinformation continues to threaten the spread of accurate information about issues at home and abroad. For women in national security, in particular, there are increased risks for simply working in this space, let alone giving voice to topics and issues that matter. Buy me a drink, and I'll give you all of my controversial opinions, trust me - they probably won't be what you expect. But simply having a platform for information shouldn't cause you to be harassed. Check out this worthwhile conversation, and help protect the women and underserved voices in your network. https://lnkd.in/gzrN_Hus

How can we effectively combat #genderbasedviolence online? It is necessary to understand that, today, digital #technology is another actor that perpetuates inequalities, sexual digital violence, and discrimination. Join Sala Weleilakeba, DAWN's Research Officer, as she elaborates on the significance of education, proactive measures from digital platforms, and the necessity for new and updated legal frameworks to address this pressing issue. We cannot only ask ourselves about various forms of discrimination and attempt to combat them; we must also question the structure itself to ensure the Internet and the digital world become safe and equitable spaces.
