SOLAR // “Gunvor’s first material investment in the solar space fully aligns with Nyera’s commitment to the Energy Transition and our ambition to build up a renewable power portfolio.” said Fredrik Törnqvist, Managing Director of Nyera, Gunvor’s #renewables investment vehicle. Gunvor, together with Quercus Real Assets Limited (“Quercus”), the London-based renewable specialist focused on international investments within the #EnergyTransition, proudly announce a landmark #solar development partnership that targets the development of up to 3 gigawatts (GW) of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in #Italy. Under the terms of the deal, Quercus will draw on its established track record of developing renewable projects—from permitting to “ready to build” status—and combine that with Gunvor’s ability to fund, manage, and optimize assets through power purchasing agreements (“PPAs”). The solar sites will be strategically located across all regions in Italy, granting Gunvor the option to acquire and enter into PPAs with the assets. INVESTMENTS // Wild Capital, which specialises in providing biodiversity net gain (#BNG) and #nutrientneutrality (NN) solutions to developers to offset nature loss and pollution, has closed its first fund and launched an innovative options product—an update published by React News..   The debut fund, “Wild Capital Fund I”, is backed by Nyera, a subsidiary of global commodities trader Gunvor Group Ltd that focuses on the renewable and sustainable investments. Wild Capital is acquiring strategic #habitatbanks across the UK to cater for the BNG and NN markets.   The UK BNG and NN markets are estimated to be worth upwards of £300m per year. Nyera’s parent Gunvor, which had $150bn in turnover in 2022, is providing Wild Capital with sufficient liquidity to underwrite the market opportunity.    ‘’We have made a significant investment in Wild Capital to enable it to execute its business plan that will have a transformative impact on UK nature and biodiversity,” said Fredrik Törnqvist, Energy Transition Director at Nyera. “Our investment in Wild Capital is part of a wider corporate strategy to invest in global energy transition and the global biodiversity markets.’’   The Wild Capital team have previously worked across policy for BNG and NN in Natural England, delivered over £600m in residential and commercial development and have managed over £2bn in assets. The chairman, Roderick Gibbs, is the co-founder and MD of Value Retail Group.    More details on the deal and future plans can be read at React News: https://lnkd.in/gUbA3fmz #oott #biodiversity #fundraising

SAMURAI LOAN //  Gunvor has successfully refinanced its 3-year Yen-denominated Sustainability-Linked Term Loan (the “Samurai” loan) for a total amount of JPY 49.1 billion. The facility was significantly oversubscribed and Gunvor was able to increase the facility from the original debut facility amount of JPY 27 billion. Sixteen institutions participated in the syndicated facility. “We are very pleased with the outcome of our #Samurai loan refinancing and the support we received from our Japanese financial partners,” said Jeff Webster, Chief Financial Officer, Gunvor Group. “The increase in the facility affirms the market’s clear support for Gunvor’s strategy and our #ESG commitments, which are now embedded in this transaction.” The KPIs relate to the reduction of Scope 1 and 2 Greenhouse Gas (“GHG”) emissions; reduction of Scope 3 GHG emissions associated with the improvement of energy efficiency of the shipping fleet; the investment in non-fossil fuel projects; and the assessment of the Group’s assets, JVs, and suppliers against Human Rights principles. Each KPI is annually tested and externally verified in line with LMA Sustainability-Linked Loan Principles, and a margin discount or premium will apply depending on the achievement of the annual targets. POWER // Gunvor is acquiring from bp a 75% ownership stake in Bahía De Bizkaia Electricidad S.L., a 785MW combined cycle power plant located in Bilbao, Spain. The deal, which remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions, represents Gunvor’s first investment in a power generation asset, while expanding its commitment to developing Spain’s energy sector. “Gunvor has an established track record of successfully integrating and aligning industrial assets with our core physical energy trading business,” said Aldo Della Valle, Head of European Gas & Power Trading. “With BBE, we hope to similarly align our trading in natural gas/LNG and power with the plant, so that it continues to contribute positively to Spain’s economy over the long-term, while upholding our energy transition priorities.” Gunvor’s purchase of the stake in BBE builds upon its’ existing investments in two biofuel plants located in Huelva and Álava. Along with a marketing and trading office in Madrid, Gunvor today has more than 100 employees in the country. Gunvor intends to retain BBE’s current employees and management.
