Our first dedicated Cobb County Police Department’s RTCC internship has drawn to a close, and what a success it has been! It all started as an idea and a challenge for Lt. David Thorp and RTCC Supervisor Christine Walraven. They transformed our department’s internship program by developing a new program where an intern could be embedded with us for a deep dive into the RTCC and Crime Analysis Unit. The team conducted interviews and selected Madison Miller from Kennesaw State University. She has been incredible, fully embracing the learning opportunity! During her internship, Madison gained a wide variety of experiences, including: 📍 Operating as a Public Safety Analyst and Criminal Intelligence Analyst 📍 Real-world use of public safety systems, investigative resources, and technologies 📍 Visiting public safety tech companies and meeting with C-suite members 📍 Being interviewed by our PIO’s Office about her internship Madison embraced her internship with a fierce work ethic and even took the initiative to prepare our next intern, starting this fall semester, for his upcoming role. We said goodbye to Madison with a custom cake (peanut butter and jelly, her favorite lunch choice), shared our words of appreciation for her time, and watched the RTCC assist patrol in taking down a stolen vehicle. What a great way to wrap things up! 💥 The two takeaways for me? 💡 It's amazing what happens when a talented team of forward-thinking individuals are given the freedom to innovate. Thank you David and Chris for all you did with this internship! 💡 With criminal justice students like Madison, our public safety future looks bright.
