Shaker seniors in the Career Exploration Internship Program (CEIP) have the unique opportunity to explore a career field they are considering pursuing. Senior Estelle Porter interned at Baker Public Relations and the Siena College Research Institute. She reflected on her time in CEIP by saying “My experience in CEIP has greatly prepared me for my future and let me explore areas of interest. I think everyone should take advantage of this awesome program!” Senior Annabel Kelsey, who interned at Graney & King, LCC (LPL Financial) and Momentive Performance Materials Inc. had this to say about her experience: “I am immensely grateful to have taken CEIP at Shaker. Through the program, I have not only gained real skills in finance, but I have made real connections with mentors who have been incredibly supportive and informative.” Also pictured are Leonni Griffin at Baker Public Relations, George Sutphin at Keller Williams Realty, Inc., Williams, Abhinav Thati and Tayab Faisal with Troy Web Consulting and Tyler Kearns with DALLE Accounting and Cash Management, Inc. The Shaker HS work-based learning coordinators would like to thank all the participating local businesses and mentors. Your support is crucial and without it we would not be able to offer this incredible opportunity to our students. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please reach out to Jaimee Shipley at Jaimee.Shipley@nccsk12.org.

Walt Hartl, Vice President of Learning for Hoffman Development - Hoffman Car Wash / innovateIT / Byrider, spoke with Shaker economic students May 10 about the role of small businesses in the community. In their social studies classes, students have been researching the impact local businesses have on the Capital Region. Mr. Hartl talked about the charitable work of Hoffman and how they take pride in making their community a better place, as well as taking pride in providing a great service to the community. Students asked a series of questions about how to start their own business and how to be successful in the corporate world. It was some great real world advice for the next generation of business leaders from Shaker High School, teacher Dan Fountain said.
