Does a higher price always mean better service or quality? For shippers looking for transportation products and services, it's easy to fall into the same behavior pattern and go for the big name with the higher cost. Why do we think the "luxury" option is best? For the status: Prestige products and services can convey a sense of status and exclusivity. Companies might be willing to pay a premium to "join the club" and be associated with a particular brand or to project an image of success and affluence. But, they may find, the excitement of this “emotional appeal” wears off quickly. For lack of Information: Companies might lack the expertise or time to accurately evaluate the true value of a product or service. This can lead to a willingness to pay more based on the perception that higher price equates to higher quality or better performance. It's important to understand your needs, research the details, and objectively evaluate alternatives. For the expectation of better service: Many times, shippers might feel that they are owed a greater level of service due to paying a higher price. They expect a level of customization and personalization that might not be available with standard offerings when actually the reverse is often true. With many big brands, customers have to adjust their needs to the offerings provided to them. For the perceived value: In many tech based industries, there aren’t as many physical identifiers of quality, so perceived value often ends up playing a large role in decision making. Supply chain executives might believe that paying more guarantees a better outcome, whether it's in terms of product functionality, durability, or service excellence. But, in reality, the price doesn’t have a direct correlation with the performance or craftsmanship. The Bottom Line is, there are many value-based alternatives that provide equal or better offerings than the more expensive luxury brand. Taking the time to properly assess performance, agility, customization possibilities, and results, can save money and improve business.
