Sarah Louise “Sadie” Delany was an American educator and civil rights pioneer who was the subject, along with her younger sister, Elizabeth "Bessie" Delany, of the New York Times bestselling biography, Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years. Sadie was the first Black-American permitted to teach domestic science at the high-school level in the New York public schools, & became famous, with the publication of the book, at the age of 103. #BlackHistoryMonth https://bit.ly/3lFyStJ

Marjorie Lee Browne was a prominent mathematician and educator who, in 1949, became only the third Black woman to earn a doctorate in her field. Browne saw the importance of computer science early on, writing a $60,000 grant to IBM to bring a computer to North Carolina Central University in 1960—one of the first computers in academic computing, and probably the first at a historically black school. https://bit.ly/3I2Z2hE

Fanny Jackson Coppin was an American educator, missionary and lifelong advocate for female higher education. One of the first Black alumnae of Oberlin College, she served as principal of the “Institute for Colored Youth” in Philadelphia and became the first Black school superintendent in the United States. #BlackHistoryMonth

Katherine Johnson was a Black American mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics as a NASA employee were critical to the success of the first and subsequent U.S. spaceflights. The film “Hidden Figures” was based on Johnson’s work with NASA. #BlackHistoryMonth

Carter Woodson is remembered for pioneering Black studies in schools & colleges. He began the “Negro History Week”, which is now celebrated as “Black History Month”. Poverty pushed him to work in the coal mines & he didn't attend high school before age 20. https://bit.ly/3I4fi1D #BlackHistoryMonth
