  • Meet Cassidy, the winner of the Lincoln Center Kiwanis Community Service Scholarship! With a passion for public service, Cassidy has been a trailblazer in the Lincoln East High School and Lincoln Public Schools community, lobbying for menstrual equity at LPS. Her dedication to community service persuaded her to pursue a BA in Political Science with a long-term goal of attending law school. Cassidy will continue her impactful work as an intern for Nebraska State Senator Conrad, and this scholarship will enable her to dedicate her college years to public service and volunteering, easing some financial worries. Congratulations, Cassidy! Your dedication and hard work are truly inspiring. 🌟👏 #FutureLeader #LPSProud

  • ✏ Meet one of our scholarship recipients, Makenna! 🍎 🎓 Surrounded by educators in her family, most of whom dedicated their careers to Lincoln Public Schools, Makenna's path in education felt preordained. While she initially resisted the idea, her passion for working with others ultimately won out. Makenna found her purpose in Special Education after extensive involvement with Unified programs and the Special Education department at Lincoln Southwest High School. Witnessing the remarkable community of students who are often underestimated solidified her desire to champion inclusion.   Makenna is also bilingual in English and Spanish and believes that there should be more representation of foreign languages, especially in Special Education. Because of her dedication to representation, Makenna was awarded the Lincoln Area Retired School Personnel Scholarship, easing some of the financial stress of college for McKenna and her family. “I truly cannot express my gratitude for being a recipient of this scholarship. My four years of high school have revolved around working with students who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. I have primarily worked with Life Skills students, which is the job I dream of having in the future.”

  • The Graduation Pathways Program at Lincoln Public Schools provides classes to students aged 17-21 who are at risk for or have dropped out of high school. Recognizing a need to expand the program, the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools provided extra funding to hire a school counselor, a social worker, and additional teachers to cover every core academic discipline in 2019. With this funding, Graduation Pathways has grown from 19 graduates its first year to 152 graduates today. Read Cara's success story on LPS's website here: https://lnkd.in/gfUuxAnh
