Back in the 1980s, before social media and AMBER Alerts, #missing children's photos appeared on milk cartons. Over the next 40 years, we've helped recover over 426,000 children. We'll #neverstop searching until all missing children come home. Our story: https://lnkd.in/etmC7wnX

Many families were introduced to NCMEC at the breakfast table through milk cartons in the 80s and 90s. Organized by the National Child Safety Council, the milk carton program was a coordinated effort with more than 700 independent dairies across the country and featured missing child photos provided by NCMEC. Stay tuned for NCMEC’s blog tomorrow about the iconic milk carton campaign and its legacy in the search for missing children. #40YearsofHope

🎉 We are thrilled to be among the 23 new grantees awarded by Safe Online, receiving a share of the USD 10 million grant! NCMEC’s Innovative Data project will deploy natural language processing and machine learning techniques on the largest dataset of child victimization to uncover critical trends and predictive behavior patterns. This will help accelerate victim recovery, transform global response, and prevent future child sexual exploitation. #SafeOnline

Suzanne Lyall was a college sophomore when she was last seen on March 2, 1998, getting off a bus on her University of Albany campus. She hasn’t been seen since. Her parents helped pass the PROTECT Act of 2003, which contains a provision known as “Suzanne’s Law,” aimed at helping young people who go missing. Now, at the request of law enforcement, NCMEC resources can also be used in cases of missing 18, 19 and 20-year-olds. #40YearsofHope

Today, in partnership with NCMEC, Thorn released new research on sextortion trends from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's CyberTipline reports. Thorn's groundbreaking study, “Trends in Financial Sextortion: An investigation of sextortion reports in NCMEC CyberTipline data,” conducted in collaboration with NCMEC shows that financial sextortion is sharply on the rise, and is a tactic that is primarily used on unsuspecting teenage boys.
Our latest research, in collaboration with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), highlights a disturbing rise in financially motivated #sextortion, predominantly targeting boys aged 14-17. Children are being exploited for monetary gain by organized groups which leverage popular platforms for victimization, threaten social shaming and even use #artificialintelligence to create explicit images. Our study emphasizes the importance of awareness, open conversations about online safety, and robust platform measures to combat these threats. Read our blog to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gWCne8wk
