🌟 Today, we honor the legacy of SO1 (SEAL) Art Nicholas, a true hero. Nicholas, a member of the Scouts & Raiders during Operation Torch, played a vital role in shaping amphibious warfare. 🌊 Last summer, Naval Special Warfare’s Basic Training Command paid tribute to Nicholas, naming him an honorary SEAL and presenting his son with Trident during SEAL Qualification Training Class 355 graduation. Senior SEALs visited his home, expressing gratitude for his service and enduring impact. 🙌 Watch the moving tribute here: https://lnkd.in/gpCSA4bq As an unsung hero of Operation Torch, Nicholas conducted daring reconnaissance and sabotage missions behind enemy lines before the existence of Navy SEALs. 🌠 Operation Torch marked the first large-scale amphibious invasion of World War II, liberating North Africa from Axis powers and paving the way for the European invasion. 🌍 Nicholas, 101, passed away in Englewood, Florida on May 2 and is survived by his wife Hazel. #USSOCOM #NavySEALs #NavySWCC #OperationTorch #WWII #Leadership #Victory #USSOCOM

19 years ago today, on the evening of June 27th, a four-man special reconnaissance team of SEALs was inserted into the mountains of Afghanistan. The patrol was compromised the following day, leading to a gunfight between the patrol and an enemy militia force. The gunfight resulted in three casualties and one survivor from the mission. A quick reaction force was sent to assist, but the rescue party of 16 - eight SEALs and eight Soldiers from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment “Night Stalkers”- was shot down by enemy fire. Today, we continue to honor the legacy of Operation Red Wings and remember the sacrifice of these service members #americasnavy #navalspecialwarfare #navyseals #operationredwings #160thsoar

🔱 Today, we pay tribute to the brave warriors who gave their lives 19 years ago in Operation Red Wings. We extend our remembrance to their families, friends, and teammates who continue to honor their sacrifice with resilience and resolve. On June 28, 2005, a reconnaissance team of U.S. Navy #SEALs embarked on a mission in Afghanistan’s Kunar Province. The mission was compromised, leading to an encounter with more than 50 enemy insurgents. This prolonged engagement resulted in the loss of three out of four team members. A rescue helicopter, carrying eight additional SEALs and eight Soldiers of the U.S. Army’s 160th Special Operations Regiment “Night Stalkers,” was shot down. This event marks Operation Red Wings as one of the most tragic days in the history of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and Naval Special Warfare. 🔱 To learn more about Operation Red Wings and the brave men that fought that day, visit the Summary of Action from Lt. Michael Murphy’s Medal of Honor citation: https://lnkd.in/gpHWEyX #USSOCOM #NightStalkers #NavySEALs #RedWings #NeverForget #Heroes #MedalOfHonor

🇺🇸 The Medal of Honor was posthumously awarded to Lt. Michael Murphy for “conspicuous gallantry” demonstrated during enemy engagements on June 27 and 28, 2005. 🔱 Navy SEAL Ethos: “I will never quit. I persevere and thrive on adversity. My Nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down, I will get back up, every time.
