Naval Special Warfare Command - Navy SEAL & SWCC Teams’ Post

🔱 Today, we pay tribute to the brave warriors who gave their lives 19 years ago in Operation Red Wings. We extend our remembrance to their families, friends, and teammates who continue to honor their sacrifice with resilience and resolve. On June 28, 2005, a reconnaissance team of U.S. Navy #SEALs embarked on a mission in Afghanistan’s Kunar Province. The mission was compromised, leading to an encounter with more than 50 enemy insurgents. This prolonged engagement resulted in the loss of three out of four team members. A rescue helicopter, carrying eight additional SEALs and eight Soldiers of the U.S. Army’s 160th Special Operations Regiment “Night Stalkers,” was shot down. This event marks Operation Red Wings as one of the most tragic days in the history of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and Naval Special Warfare. 🔱 To learn more about Operation Red Wings and the brave men that fought that day, visit the Summary of Action from Lt. Michael Murphy’s Medal of Honor citation: https://lnkd.in/gpHWEyX #USSOCOM #NightStalkers #NavySEALs #RedWings #NeverForget #Heroes #MedalOfHonor

Rest In Peace. Great loss to their familes, teammates and communities. Their legacies live on by those who knew them and the SOF community they served in to protect our nation and enable freedom for others. NSDQ!

Miguel - I heartily join you in paying tribute to the brave SEAL's and soldiers on this 19th anniversary of that fateful, tragic day in Afghanistan! For people not familiar with this historic incident, it was well captured in Marcus Luttrell's book, "Lone Survivor," and the movie starring Mark Wahlberg. My son was a "plank-owner" on the U.S.S. Michael Murphy (Navy destroyer named in his honor), so I had the privilege of viewing that ship's commissioning and shake hands with Michael's parents in New York City in October, 2012.

As a resume writer and career counselor dedicated to supporting veterans and military personnel, I want to take a moment to honor the brave heroes of Operation Red Wings. Nineteen years ago, these courageous U.S. Navy SEALs and Soldiers of the 160th Special Operations Regiment "Night Stalkers" demonstrated unparalleled valor and sacrifice in the face of overwhelming odds.
