  • Today, we celebrate a prestigious honor: Neil Dierks, who served for 20 years as NPPC's inaugural CEO, was awarded the NPIC Larry Graham Pork Legacy Award this afternoon. Dierk's legacy with the National Pork Producers Council began in 2001 when the organization had just 5 employees. Throughout his extraordinary term as CEO, he helped NPPC develop a strong advocacy arm, forged stronger relationships with state-level producer organizations, and made our organization a preeminent leader in the agriculture space. Thanks to him, America's pork producers have a seat at the table not just in our nation's capital, but in capitals across the globe. Despite economic hardship, Humphreys underscored NPPC's policy wins in 2024 and thanked producers for their commitment to the cause. "We’ve faced economic challenges, but your [producers] unwavering support has driven significant policy victories. I can’t think of a better organization to be part of during these times. Together, we'll continue to overcome obstacles and strengthen our industry." Joining Humphreys on the stage was National Pork Board CEO Bill Even who spoke on shifting market trends among consumers and recent initiatives to promote pork both domestically and internationally.

  • This afternoon at NPIC, Dr. Anna Forseth, DVM, MS, PhD and Giovani Trevisan, DVM, MS, PhD, from Iowa State University, discussed the need for ASF preparedness in detail, specifically the necessity of state and federal agencies to work together in halting an outbreak. Utilizing data from state executives, feedback forms on our website, interviews, and phone conversations with reporters, we've built a consensus on the role the USDA plays in our mission to stop ASF and ensure that pork producers land on their feet in case of an emergency. Dr. Forseth remarked, “It was important that we got as much industry feedback as possible”, and highlighted the ultimate goal, from almost all respondents, of expediting a return to trade after an outbreak was to be contained. #NPIC2024 Read more about how NPPC is addressing swine traceability standards here: https://lnkd.in/eaZYxFsj

  • Dr. Anna Forseth, NPPC's Director of Animal Health, spoke on a National Pork Industry Conference panel on the evolution of swine traceability standards. Any detection of a foreign animal disease outbreak within the U.S. could halt all pork exports, putting our producers' livelihoods at severe risk. To mitigate this risk, improving pre-harvest traceability standards is essential. Enhancing the tracking of live pigs will help better control disease spread and ensure that producers can continue to supply safe, healthy pork globally. At the 2024 National Pork Industry Forum in March, delegates voted on a resolution to endorse these enhanced standards: https://lnkd.in/eaZYxFsj #NPIC2024 #NationalPorkIndustryConference #PorkPriorities
