National Pork Board Chief Sustainability Officer | Arkansas Natural Resources Commissioner

🌱 Earth Month is here, and I am excited to share the Pork Cares Farm Impact Report snapshot of 2022 is out. The report shares on-farm sustainability measurements from 2022 farm data, painting a promising picture for the pork industry for both retailers and producers.   🐖 One of the most significant results from the 2022 Pork Cares Farm Impact Report is the industry’s emerging role as a carbon sink. Pork producers are actively removing more carbon from the atmosphere than they are producing. I would like to share with you highlights from the latest sustainability report: • 225 producers participated (up from 120 in 2021) with a 57% renewal rate year over year • 3.3 million pigs represented in the program (up from 1.5 million pigs in 2021) 10,000 acres of conservation acres across the industry • -0.44 tons/acre net GHG emissions  • 0.28 tons of carbon sequestered per acre • 1.14 tons per acre soil erosion rate – one-fourth of the national average • 52 kilowatts of energy used per pig 🌎 Although these results are a snapshot of the work that is being done within the pork industry, we are motivated by the industry's progress. I encourage you to review current results and learn what they mean for our industry. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ggZsJ5zN #EarthMonth #Sustainability #Agriculture #PorkIndustry #SustainablePork

Meet our first #RealPorkScholar, Lindsey Britton! Lindsey obtained her undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University in Animal Science, with a concentration in Veterinary Bioscience. She’s currently attending her alma mater to obtain her Master of Science in Animal Science and is interested in Swine Reproduction. Upon completing her master’s degree, Lindsey plans to attend veterinarian school to become a swine systems veterinarian. “I want to be an extremely well-rounded individual who can provide valuable and useful insight into the swine industry. As an attending veterinarian and industry specialist, I would like to have an impact on farms daily. I would like to not only be involved in health decisions but also in production, management, outreach, and education. The future of the U.S. pork industry is very bright as long as we have the right people directing it.” Congratulations, Lindsey! We’re excited to see your contributions to the industry! 🎓 Learn more about the Real Pork Scholars program here: https://bit.ly/43GFTMY
