Pharmacies. The face of neighborhood healthcare.
About us
NACDS focuses on advocating for pro-patient and pro-pharmacy public policy; communicating the value of community pharmacy as the face of neighborhood healthcare; and fostering business community and solutions through effective meetings and other member programs. NACDS represents traditional drug stores, supermarkets, and mass merchants with pharmacies – from regional chains with four stores to national companies. The NACDS membership also includes pharmacy and consumer goods suppliers. NACDS Total Store Expo blends the trade show and senior-level conference formats into a powerful appointment-based show, including pharmacy, consumer goods, supply chain and logistics. This next-generation trade show enables strategic and tactical collaboration across functions within retailer and supplier partners.

Today, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) joins in urging Massachusetts legislators to reform Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs). With three PBMs controlling nearly 80% of the market, it’s crucial to address their practices that often increase patient costs and limit access to trusted pharmacies and essential medications. Our aim is to promote transparency, support pharmacies, and prioritize patient care. Your Care Coalition celebrates the passage of Louisiana HB 579, a critical step in expanding patient access to essential medicines and services for all Louisianians. Thank you to Gov. Landry, Reps McMahen, Bacala, Billions, Boyd, Bryant, Myer and Johnson, and Sens. Wheat and McMath for their support. Join us as we work to broaden patient access to testing and immediate disease treatment through pharmacies.

👉 NACDS joined patients, pharmacists and pharmacy advocates at the Massachusetts State House, calling for #PBMreform now. NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson 💬: “Our message is simple. Now is the time for the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives to stop pharmaceutical benefit manipulation from inflating Bay Staters’ prescription drug prices and jeopardizing access to trusted pharmacies and needed medications.” NACDS appreciates the work of the members of the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Health Care Finance, and House Chair John Lawn and Senate Chair Cindy Friedman. For the people of Massachusetts and the pharmacies they count on, it is time to stand up to the PBMs, and it is time for PBM reform now. Read more: https://bit.ly/4eBFwIr

🚨 NACDS is calling attention to today’s The New York Times must-read and must-act article: “The Middlemen: The Opaque Industry Secretly Inflating Prices for Prescription Drugs; Pharmacy benefit managers are driving up drug costs for millions of people, employers, and the government.” The article, described as “the first article in a series about how pharmacy benefit managers prioritize their interests, often at the expense of patients, employers and taxpayers,” lays out the devastating effects of PBM tactics and manipulation on people and on the pharmacies that communities rely on nationwide - making the push for Congress to deliver on #PBMreform even more salient.
