Napa RCD is happy to share that we were awarded $6.7 million by NOAA to work towards improving fish passage at 7 sites in Napa County! Under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act, NOAA is supporting efforts to help restore access to healthy habitat for migratory fish across the country. Napa RCD's grant will help reopen 15 miles of habitat for threatened steelhead. We will also assess the remaining fish passage barriers in the watershed and develop designs and permitting for the three highest ranking barriers from that assessment. #napa #napacounty #watershed #conservation #sfbayarea

About us
Napa County Resource Conservation District (Napa RCD) was established in 1945 as a special district of the State of California to help farmers and ranchers in Napa County tackle erosion and other problems on their land. As natural resource issues change, we continue to evolve. Today, we help our community achieve conservation goals by providing technical assistance, educational programs, monitoring programs, and funding sources on issues ranging from fisheries to forest health, soil management, water conservation and quality, and more. We are governed by a locally-appointed Board of Directors. Our leaders are also your neighbors — they live in the district and understand what the local resource needs and concerns are, which helps steer Napa RCD in the right direction. Our team consists of conservation scientists and outreach and administrative professionals who are skilled at developing, implementing, and monitoring many types of projects. Our Napa RCD works at many scales — from the individual landowner to entire watersheds.

Napa RCD is bringing forest health programing to urban areas! Did you know tree canopy cover can reduce temperature by 10°F compared to areas without a treescape? Funded through a grant from the US Forest Service, we'll be working with partners to launch new initiatives that will improve the health of the community's urban tree canopy. Specifically, we will be partnering with the cities of American Canyon, Napa, and St Helena as well as several local non-profits. #fundingurbanforestry #napa #napacounty #sthelena #americancanyon

We are so proud to be a part of the North Bay Forest Improvement Program, bringing critical resources to private forest landowners across Lake, Napa, Mendocino and Sonoma counties to plan and implement forest health improvement activities. Check out this beautiful video developed by Watch Duty featuring a North Bay Forest Improvement Program project completed in Sonoma County. A huge thank you to our wonderful partners and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) -- collaboration is at the heart of this important work.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The North Bay Forest Improvement Program has been one of the most innovative collaborations I have been a part of. With Lead Agency After the Fire USA and partners California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Sonoma Resource Conservation District, GOLD RIDGE RESOURCE CONSERVATION DISTRICT, CLEAR LAKE ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH CENTER, Napa County Resource Conservation District, Mendocino County Resource Conservation District, and Conservation Works (North Coast RC&D Council), what we started in 2020 has only grown in reach, scale, and impact. Now at WRA, Inc., I'm so proud to still be on this team figuring out how to incentivize private investment to create both public good and healthy forests. (Thanks Watch Duty for the partnership and this beautiful video!)
