In her cinematic essay "Holding the Line," Kelly Ramsey takes us to the frontlines of the 2020 McCash Fire as it threatens her home, Happy Camp, a town of 1,000 people. As her team is tasked with lighting an immense backburn to stop the encroaching flames, Ramsey battles with the reality of her role in the fight: "I reminded myself that we sacrificed these acres to save the thousands, maybe millions, of acres at our backs. Today we join Outdoor Afro in its mission to dispel the false narrative that #Juneteenth is a celebration of the end of slavery in the United States. In reality, it is the date 250,000 enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, were told they were free - 2.5 years after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect. The Little Missouri River, a State Scenic River, meanders through the grassland, carving and exposing colorful geologic layers. Winners will receive prizes including outdoor gear, adventure tours, and a trip to Washington D.C. to attend the Capitol Christmas tree lighting.
