Republicans and Democrats in Congress worked together to introduce bipartisan legislation furthering one of NAIOP’s top legislative priorities. The Revitalizing Downtowns and Main Streets Act (H.R. 9002) was introduced last Thursday with 12 original cosponsors: six Republicans and six Democrats, all members of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee. A bill that NAIOP and its members spearheaded was introduced yesterday in the U.S. House of Representatives. The “Revitalizing Downtowns and Main Streets Act” establishes a new 20% tax credit to make possible conversion of many underutilized or vacant commercial properties to residential use. This morning, I had the pleasure of attending the NAIOP Raleigh Durham Developing Leader Series Mentor Breakfast at the new Lee & Associates office in Cary, representing Iron Box Power Distribution. The event featured Karah Jennings McConnell, Executive Vice President and Principal at Lee & Associates, as our mentor. Lee & Associates is a powerhouse in various sectors, including industrial, office, land, retail, supply chain and logistics, and data centers. 🌟 It was fantastic to connect with fellow NAIOP members from diverse industries such as civil engineering, development, architecture, private equity, and telecommunications. Karah’s extensive experience and insights into the growth of RTP and NC, along with the challenges and opportunities in each sector at Lee & Associates, were incredibly valuable. Some of the key takeaways from Karah’s discussion: - The importance of leveraging corporate and research experience for effective business development. - The value of networking and collaborating with multiple industries to successfully bring a project together. - Insights into the growth potential and challenges within RTP and NC. - Understanding sector-specific opportunities at Lee & Associates. A big thank you to Karah for sharing her knowledge and to NAIOP for organizing such an insightful event! Looking forward to applying these learnings and continuing to grow alongside such an inspiring community. 👏 🚀 #NAIOP #Networking #Mentorship #CommercialRealEstate #IronBoxPowerDistribution #ProfessionalGrowth

NAIOP members from all three NAIOP NC Chapters met with nearly 30 lawmakers and/or their staff during the NAIOP NC Advocacy Days on June 10 & 11. This also included a delegation, representing NAIOP of North Carolina, meeting with Senate President Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore. Like many other states, the North Carolina legislature is grappling with the passage of a new budget before the start of the next fiscal year. Many of NAIOP of North Carolina’s 2024 priorities, such as support for the Job Development Investment Grant program, will be impacted by the new budget. The advocacy day at the state capitol and these latest developments on budget negotiations underscore the importance of our North Carolina chapters remaining engaged and participating in the legislative process. Our advocacy is making a difference for commercial real estate and economic development in the Tar Heel state. Read more about the 2024 Advocacy Days here: https://lnkd.in/dhariJDM
