We are just a few months away from our annual Golf Benefit, Monday, September 30 at Spring Brook Country Club in support of the Museum. This year's tournament is perfectly suited to be a great day on the course: early autumn, with a roving refreshment vehicle, and an expanded $25,000 hole-in-one challenge! This year we are organizing a special thank you event for our early sponsors ($5,000 and above) who contribute before August 1. No matter where you stand on the current debate about transcultural works of art and cultural appropriation, there is so much to be learned by the evidence contained within objects. A remarkable example, citing a remarkable object, was showcased in today's New York Times, Puccini’s ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Turandot’: More Than Appropriation https://lnkd.in/eMG3kikW This spring we recognize the twentieth anniversary of the Morris Museum beginning its stewardship of the Guinness Collection. Our care for the music box cited in the lede, which was a touchstone for Puccini is not only about housing a cultural artifact. It extends, rather, to making the experience of that object and ensure it is availability to scholars and enthusiasts and creative professionals alike.
