BiblioTemps reposted this
The Massachusetts Library System (MLS) is proud to announce a new research initiative aimed at fostering diversity and inclusion within the field of librarianship. Titled "Pathways to Inclusion: Strategies for Diverse Library Workforce Development," this project aligns with MLS's current strategic plan and commitment to promoting equitable access to library services and resources for all who live, work, or study in Massachusetts. MLS is now seeking proposals from an experienced individual or team to lead this research project. Project Overview: "Pathways to Inclusion" seeks to identify ways to increase the appeal and accessibility of a career in libraries to individuals from underrepresented groups, as noted in our FY24 Action Plan S.I. 2, G. 1. The project will be led by MLS Executive Director Sarah Sogigian and BiblioTemps® and Membership Manager Amanda Fauver. Key Objectives: 1. Identify and define underrepresented groups in the library field. 2. Investigate existing barriers and challenges faced by individuals from underrepresented communities when considering a career in librarianship. 3. Research and compile best practices for promoting diversity and inclusion in libraries. 4. Develop strategies for engaging underrepresented communities and encouraging diverse individuals to pursue careers in librarianship. 5. Establish collaborative partnerships with community organizations and educational institutions to amplify outreach efforts.
