As many people will be aware, today June 6th, marks 80 years since the D-Day landings of WWII. The Normandy Landings were part of 'Operation Overlord' and the invasion of this part of northern France with its varied coastline of white-chalk cliffs and beachheads, was conducted in two main phases. The first was an airborne assault involving more than 18,000 paratroopers and 14,000 sorties and followed by almost 7,000 naval vessels and some 132,000 ground troops. Available now on BBC Four is a chance to rewatch the 2017 documentary series - 'Britain in Focus - A Photographic History'. Presented by photographer Eamonn McCabe who passed away in 2022, the series explores how British photographers responded to historic events in the first half of the 20th century and traces the emergence of photojournalism. Episode 2, shows Eamonn at our Watford Archives and how the Daily Mirror broke new ground with its dynamic coverage of the siege of Sidney Street in 1911. Copa '71 is exclusively out in UK cinemas from 8 March - International Women's Day. Brought to you by the team at Dogwoof, Copa '71 is a documentary film covering the 1971 Women's Football World Cup. Told by the pioneering women who participated in it and built from an archive unseen for fifty years, this is the extraordinary story, a tournament witnessed by record crowds that has been written out of sporting history — until now. It features 25 images from the Reach archives and was worked on by the TV Clearance team, Antony and Sangita with archivist Holly unearthing rarely seen images showing behind the scenes shots of the England team in Mexico. mirrorpix I Reach Licensing are involved in many projects that span across several mediums, one being publishing and books. Out at the end of this month is '200 Years of Lifesaving at Sea' by The History Press and featuring photos from our archives. From what started as a pitch this time last year from a mirrorpix monthly meeting, we now have a book with over 100 fascinating images from our archive being published in collaboration with the team at The History Press. It marks this year's 200th anniversary of the RNLI and provides a testament to the brave folk who sailed and continue to sail towards danger, rather than away from it.
