Let's meet at the Health Datapalooza 2024 Look at the photo below. It was taken ten years ago at the Health Dataplaooza 2014 when I was still a PhD student. In the photo, you see my wife (wife-to-be, a girlfriend, to be precise), Joyce Ho, and me, and right next to us are Karen DeSalvo and Dwayne Spradlin. We got second place in the open data competition at the conference. Ten years have passed since then. I still live and breathe open health data. The open data initiatives by Aneesh Chopra and Todd Park strengthened their momentum, and the open data assets seem mature enough to metamorphose into something extraordinary. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐳𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 (My thoughts) Hello everyone, I've been learning how to visualize healthcare data using mimilabs resources [1] and LinkedIn Learning. I often ask myself: What's the end goal? What am I trying to convey? Initially, I thought I'd share interesting insights from the data so we could discuss it together. [2] In this post, I could answer the following question: Which are the top 3 states with higher readmission rates and average risk scores? I could have simply provided the answer as Miami-Dade, Osceola, and Okeechobee, but data without context could mean nothing [3]. With data visualization and analysis, I can show you where these answers came from and why these states were selected, providing a bigger picture. There were several decisions involved in creating the visualization, such as which data to analyze, the form of visuals (charts) to use, what data to include in the chart, and how to design the visual.
