About us

Since 1963, Methodist Healthcare has continuously evolved to meet the growing needs of the greater San Antonio community. Our commitment has never wavered in consistently improving the health and wellness of our community by living our mission of "Serving Humanity to Honor God by providing exceptional and cost-effective healthcare accessible to all." Methodist Healthcare is a 50-50 co-ownership between Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc., South Texas’s largest non-public funding source of community healthcare for uninsured patients, and HCA Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. This creates a unique partnership that ensures Methodist Healthcare Ministries continues to benefit the community by providing quality care to all and charitable care when needed. Methodist Healthcare invested $818 million in charity and indigent care to the community in 2022 alone. With 30 facilities, including 10 hospitals and 10 freestanding emergency departments, the Methodist Healthcare team is comprised of 13,000 employees, making the system the second-largest private employer in San Antonio. With more than 3,500 credentialed physicians, Methodist Healthcare provides the largest array of medical services in the region, including neurosurgery, cardiovascular services, oncology, and women’s services. • Through HCA Healthcare's Healthier Tomorrow Fund, Students of Service (SOS) received a grant to start their Teen Medical Academy. The academy aims to help students explore various career options in the healthcare field. As part of their experience, students met with Methodist Healthcare Simulation Lab staff, learned about different hospital roles, and participated in hands-on activities. Methodist Healthcare employees not only demonstrated medical procedures to the students but also encouraged them to practice these procedures using training tools such as mannequins, training arms, and 3D-printed bones. Additionally, our EMS Relations department trained the students on Hands-Only CPR and brought our Trauma Response Facility Dogs to interact with the students. #studentsofservice #healthcarecareers #simlab

  • On Friday, San Antonio was illuminated in purple for Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month. Our facilities were lit in purple, and we encouraged our staff to wear the color to support the cause. Today, nearly 7 million people aged 65 and older in the U.S. live with Alzheimer’s disease, including over 459,000 in Texas. By 2050, that number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million. Take charge of your brain health! Learn more: alz.org/healthyhabits #alzheimersawareness #brainhealth #alzheimersassociation

After immense hard work and dedication, the Methodist Hospital campus proudly showcases its recent significant growth, demonstrating its commitment to meeting the community's needs. These recent investments include expansions to its Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Mother-Baby units and additions to its new Adult Heart and Lung Transplant Intensive Care Unit, amounting to an additional 47 beds. These efforts aim to meet the pressing need in the community for specialized heart and lung transplants, critical care for pediatric patients, and the increasing number of annual births the hospital experiences; over 6,000 last year! "Altogether, these expansions represent an investment in our future, an investment in our facilities, our community, and most importantly, our patients." – Ryan Simpson, Chief Executive Officer of Methodist Hospital. Associate Chief Nursing Officer of Methodist Hospital, Celeste Bryson and Chief Nursing Officer of Methodist Children's Hospital, Negar Johnson shared how this expansion will impact our patient care and services offered.
